#0, Cybertron Reloaded 6: Adapt and Survive

I was feeling a bit under the weather today, and having this show up made the day very much better. Thanks!

I'm enjoying seeing the better parts of Cybertron Dreams as they settle into their new Reloaded home. Things that "just sorta happened" before are now plot-driven, and the story is much richer for it.

I agree. Also, the call to ME (and Correspondence, Priscilla Tali Morgan, indeed!) was nice.

What was that feeling again?

I third that. I loved that little reminder of her name-sake, and seeing the significant and more epic differences between this and the original Cybertron Dreams has been a blast. It's also been interesting to see more of Priss and Sylvie in action, something that aside from minor mentions and short bursts, we've really only seen in the one ACROSS story so far.

I think that was partially due to the fact that they weren't having the kind of epic adventures on a regular basis that the SotS people were, and a little teenage P&Y (somehow, that just sounds dirty) went a long way.

Very nice. I especially like all the little shout-outs to the 1985 movie.

"Cyclonus... and his Armada."

"PATHETIC FOOL, THERE'S NO ESCAPE!" (And this time he didn't shoot his foot off.)

The entire Megatron-Optimus Prime fight.

And the the homage to the Fallen with Unicron-possessed Galvatron.

I really like this take on Megatron, and as much as I'm enjoying Transformers:Prime, I wish their Megatron was a little more grounded like this one. At his best, Megatron is brillient general who believes in his cause to the detriment of everything else. (Rather like Optimus in many ways.)

(Speaking of T:P, Prime Soundwave pulled off an incredible stunt in the second season premiere "Orion Pax, Part 1." He might be pulling ahead of G1 Soundwave in my rankings. Beware the quiet ones...)

I liked Kitbash. She's a lot like Ratchet. I'm sure they could spend several hours over energon trying to top each other's "worst patient" stories.

And the Seekers were a lot of fun, especially Skywarp. I thought his "fun-loving idiot" vibe fit him perfectly.

BTW, am I right in assuming that the "cyclonus-like" fighters with Galvatron, Scourge, and the Sweeps are based on the Vehicons/Eradicons/Decepticon Troopers from Transformers:Prime?

I think we had in mind the Jetstorm clones from Beast Machines, actually (or at least the Deluxe toy version of same), but the principle is much the same - faceless, and possibly sparkless, goons. Jetstorm himself was originally going to be the sacrificial mook at the beginning of the Megatron fight (and he's mentioned in Scourge's train of thought during his battle with Starscream), but we decided to save him for now in case he's needed later.

since the second reread, I'm a tad confused, the Galvatron head is the same, but I'm not quite sure the design - is this Galvatron ALSO a Jetstorm clone, or is he using a different body again?

Unicron's been tinkering with more versatile alts. Galvatron 2.0 had a vehicle form (based, out-of-story, on the Megatron /Galvatron design in Transformers Energon).

You can see him in this swanky Fred Perry pic Phil commissioned way back when we first knew this scene was gonna happen.

Back in 2005! Yes, we've been planning this for a WHILE.

For the record, Starscream had the _best_ lines.

Not only a shoutout to "Listen With Mother", of all things, but he quotes PRINCESS BRIDE!

I guess Megatron didn't have enough Renegade points to convince Galvatron to kill himself. It would have made things much easier for him.

Also, I hope Kitbash is familiar with Montgomery Scott's rule of time estimates.

I get the feeling one of Derek Bacon's more lucrative business endeavours was a correspondence course in conversational Tuchankan...

Not every headbutt is a krogan phrase, any more than all painful-sounding coughs are really Dutch place names.

Its always great to have a new UF piece; really brightens up my day/week.

As an aside: back in CR5, it was mentioned that protoform-based transformers, like Sari, were not immune to the Call to return to Cybertron - does that mean we'll be seeing Gally/Alita Ironheart show up at some point in this arc? After all, way back in Scrapeheap City Shuffle, Skuld rebuild Gally with similar tech. Or would you say that the manner in which it happened would have precluded her from it? I mean, her new body was *based* on the protoforms from the Beast Wars transformers, but wasn't *actually* a genuine protoform, right?

No one on the scene really knows, because no one really knows what the Call is. Some say it would naturally affect only those who, regardless of body, possess a spark connected to the native Cybertron, and as such, "adopted" Transformers like Gally and Marty Rose wouldn't be subject to its pull (as, indeed, the crew of the Axalon do not appear to be). Sari came from a sparked but unformatted protoform, so she qualifies under those criteria. Other authorities believe that this assumption is just that - an assumption, not backed up by anything but gut instinct and the anecdotal evidence of the Axalon crew - and that everyone should wait and see.

So wait, if Slipstream has been replaced by Starscream as Starscream without his most crippling character traits, then what is Slipstream's new characterization? I assume she's still as brutally proficient as she ever was, but uh-what else is there now? Other than being the obligatory 'girl' on the Seekers team, though I don't think anyone calls her that to her face.

Well, funny story: Slipstream in Cybertron Reloaded actually predates Slipstream in Transformers Animated. It's just an obvious name for a Sky Soldier, and we needed a few new ones.

That said, we haven't seen much of her yet, but from what we have seen, I would say her job is mainly to be the level-headed, vaguely-foresight-equipped one in the team of Sideslip and Slipstream. Sort of Springer to his Hot Rod. (As the actress said to the bishop.)
