#0, The Eight-Ball Code
Posted by Gryphon on Nov-27-12 at 09:10 PM
This has been alluded to (in Correspondence, Eight-Ball Elegy, and Blood Ties, that I can think of offhand), but hasn't actually appeared. In the Golden Age, it was often recited at the end of mission briefings; eventually, tradition pared it down to just the penultimate line on most such occasions, with the full thing being busted out only for very special occasions. Like many sacred codes around the galaxy, it consists of five vows, an affirmation, and a disclaimer.

The fifth vow was occasionally omitted on formal occasions in accordance with Wedge Defense Force General Order 12, "Try to avoid freaking the mundanes."

On my honor as an officer of the Wedge Defense Force, I solemnly swear:
I will not panic
I will get the girl
(or boy, or robot, or whatever)
I will kill the baddies
I will save the entire planet
And above all, whenever possible I will kick out the jams, motherfuckers!
Eight-Balls never quit!

Void where prohibited.

"Hey, new guy, it's Eight-Balls never quit, not Eight-Balls never quits."

"I'm an Octotesticulon."

"I... am not touching that."

"Good. Because that's sexual harassment in the workplace."

"kick out the jams, motherfuckers" remains a potent lyric. I'm going to have to remember to use it this weekend.
