Shepard's 11 Act IV won't be ready this week as semi-scheduled, not because I couldn't be arsed as has happened in the past, but because - somewhat unexpectedly - I got mugged last week by other stuff, not all of which you have yet been able to see. Bit annoying, but I will completely take it over a dry spell.

Anyway, hang in. Still on the active pile.

Nice. I'm looking forward to it! The audio editions of S11, Star Crossed and Correspondence saw me through a grand-mal bitch of a drive last week. I'll need new material for the return, near the end of July!

Seriously, you guys have ruined me for traditional audiobooks. Nobody else gives me the aggregation of awesome-per-minute of an EPUaudio production. :D

Let me add to Vile's appreciation. I hadn't used the audio formats yet, but figured earlier in the week to give the S11 books a listen. I was extremely impressed at the production quality and Ben's voicing. Think I'll start working my way through the rest.

Oh, you're in for a treat, old son! The Iron Age has some comedy gold in it, the Symphony's are good, although I've hit a wall since he hasn't gotten around to doing S3 yet. Seriously, travelling with EPUaudio makes a depressing, 18-hour overnight drive to a dreary destination a damn pleasant experience.

I thank you for your kind remarks, though at this point I feel obliged to apologize to anyone who hasn't listened to The Iron Age yet; I'm pleased with my performance, but the recording quality is pretty poor. There is, in particular, an appalling amount of rig noise from the mic setup I was using at the time, and of which I was unaware until I got bored on a long drive of my own and listened them back long after the fact. (And you have to be pretty damn bored to spend a few hours listening to your own voice reading something you wrote, I'll tell you. :) One of these days I'll probably re-record them. In the meantime... sorry.

I'd be a petty louse to complain overmuch at anything free, chief. Besides, I know my equalizer, and getting rid of midrange hash is the work of a few minutes.

Did I mention that you've ruined me for most other audiobooks? Professionally made, professionally narrated audiobooks? The subject matter(sci-fi & fantasy mashup fiction, avatars, season to taste.) is so damned interesting it makes other possibilities...seem a little less entertaining. S11 was especially engaging. Considering how gut-shot I felt at the end of ME, this is shaping up to be a fun way of expunging that particular taste from my palate.

SO, yeah, minor amateurish artifacts aside, if I have to keep making these miserable drives, I'd prefer to do it laughing my ass off at 75mph, because dammit, it fits that Gaige is Zaeed's daughter, fuck.

Oh, I appreciate that, just - fair warning for those who haven't tried them yet, you know?

>Did I mention that you've ruined me for most other audiobooks?
>Professionally made, professionally narrated audiobooks?

Tempted to say you've tried the wrong audiobooks. :)

Although I may not be the right guy to ask, actually, not because I have a conflict of interest, but because looking at my own audiobook library, I notice that it's almost all nonfiction. There's a lot of David McCullough in there. And Simon Winchester.

>because dammit, it fits that Gaige is Zaeed's daughter,
>fuck.

Like many such developments around here, that one started out as "wouldn't it be funny if" and then evolved into "... but actually it makes sense as well." That Gaige would be in S11A03 was well-established fairly early on in that act's construction, but the "... Daddy?!" scene was provisional for a little while.

That still leaves the question of just who, exactly, Gaige's mother is.

My money's on Eris.

... Which pretty much guarantees it won't be, because this is Eris we're talking about, but it's a pleasant mental image.

I'm trying to think of just who has the right blend of crazy and tech-savvy to have a kid like Gaige but the only examples I can think of are extremely unlikely in UF canon (Washu, Skuld) or are from sources I doubt Gryphon is familiar with (Agatha Heterodyne from Girl Genius).

Hmmm... moderate crazy, definite tech-savvy... could conceivably be pre-Dalekified Oswin. Cue heartwarming "I thought you were in an art-deco salt shaker!" reuniting moment.

I also can't see Agatha Heterodyne with Zaeed any more than I could see Washu or Skuld with him. (She's the very definition of an Action Scientist, though. Skuld would adore her.)

I have another possible candidate for Gaige's mother. Granted, most of our theories are probably so far out in left field that they've left Gryphon scratching his head in bewilderment, but it's fun to try anyway. Given her adopted sister Brittany's cameo back in Twilight, at least one of the Usual Suspects has a passing familiarity with Gold Digger, so I'm going to throw out Gina Diggers.

I know Phil is familiar... because he's the guy who turned me onto the book. :)

Oh, I have a huge archive of accumulated audiobooks, it's just that from the standpoint of content, if I plonk in any one book for a listen, I'm getting...just the content of that book! I enjoy starship-oriented military fiction, space opera, space magic, regular old magic, political intrigue, character-driven narratives and a bunch of other things; I'd rather get it all welded together in one sweet package than try to listen to 20-odd books at the same time! :D

I figured it happened kind of like that. It's the way I responded to it, in just about that order.

Bushido:

Ya see, I started trying to work this out, and, to be frank, I'm going to sit back and wait for the reveal, if it ever comes. Otherwise, I'll end up writing Zaeed Massani (dysfunctional?) family-fics in my head when I really need to be getting other things done!

If you think you've been ruined for professional audiobooks, you apparently haven't listened to The Kid Stays In The Picture, read by the author. Single greatest audiobook of all time.
