The other day, I was watching the new Batman: Arkham Knight trailer (not my thing, but it looks pretty), and earlier today I was rereading some of the SOS #5 stories, and the two collided in my head with this question:

Has the UF version of Top Gear ever tested out one of the Batmobiles?

It seems likely, though presumably the one they got to try was no longer frontline hardware by that point, and if Terry (it would have to be Terry) had any sense at all ("Ooh, bold assumption!" "I know, right?" say Lena and Steph), some of the buttons will have been disconnected before Hammond got a chance to press them while Clarkson was driving.

("WHY'S IT DOING THAAAAT" Jeremy demands as the Tumbler's driver's seat delivers him gracefully into the pre-rocket-jump position.)

I once considered making Batgirl (the New Avalon-based one) the guest for a UFTG episode, just for the fun of the clip Jeremy would show of her and the Stig doing a training lap in complete mutual silence, but couldn't figure out how the interview segment would work. :)

Heh.

I'm sort of over official implementations of Batman right at the moment, but that is a pretty good Batmobile. It sort of ramps back a little on the Tumbler's craziness, but keeps with the F-117-inspired styling cues that make it so recognizable.

I didn't like the Nolan Batman films very much, but I admit a soft spot for the Tumbler just because it's so frickin' insane. And because it's a practical prop. Huge respect to the people involved for that decision.

My favorite Batmobile remains the '80s one that was available as part of the Kenner Super Powers collection.

...and that's why that one would NOT in fact be disconnected, specifically for the sheer mad laughter that Hammond would have, and James looking on bemusedly.

Scene: a windswept test track somewhere near New Gotham. Dark clouds scud quickly across the sky as the camera pans down to

BATMAN

standing with his arms folded, staring down

THE STIG

who is standing impassively.

A lightning bolt crashes to earth somewhere in the background as the two stare menacingly at each other.

BATMAN: Don't scratch the paint.

BATMAN tosses the keys to the STIG, who catches them in one upraised arm, then turns and seats himself in the BATMOBILE. As he ignites the afterburner, BATMAN turns away and walks off-frame.

(At least, that's how it works in my head.)
