LAST EDITED ON Jul-09-14 AT 05:05 PM (EDT) Looks like someone's making a super-deluxe Chet figure!(I mean, really, does that not scream Chet?)

Ok, this is weird- where does Chet the Safety Trooper actually *show up* in the stories? I remember the character, but looking at that link I realized that him being safety-cone orange never registered with me originally, so I wanted to go back and read that bit, and now I can't find it.Very cool figure though. I'm not sure Chet's ever actually appeared. He started out as a Forum joke about another clonetrooper action figure, and has been mentioned a few times (mainly in the form of the "Chet's Chow" restaurant chain, which is like Planet Hollywood with a stormtrooper theme instead of action movies), but no one portraying the character has appeared in-story as far as I can recall. (It is mentioned once, I think in In for a Penny, that Jay McCandless did a tour of duty as Chet off-camera, sometime between The Vastru Encounter and The Revolution Will Be Televised.) --G. -><- Benjamin D. I believe that in one story Our Heroes dine at Chet's Chow, and the waiter is indeed attired appropriately.

>I believe that in one story Our Heroes dine at Chet's Chow, and the >waiter is indeed attired appropriately. IIRC, the waiter is dressed like a tie fighter pilot. But, some googling shows that I'm wrong
As she got up and crossed the restaurant to the pay phones, a waiter in the white and black armor of a White Legion scout trooper appeared at Utena's elbow, almost startling her out of her seat as he asked From Requiem for a Lensman -- -Pasha "Don't change the subject" "Too slow, already did."

Aha! I was stuck on an erroneous recollection of Truss and Jung regrouping at a Chet's after the "getting run off Earth" fiasco."This is probably a stupid question, but . . ."

That was chinese on B6. You're thinking of Kozue after getting booted from the WDF's advanced fighter school, where Starbuck (the elder) drops in.

>That was chinese on B6. You're thinking of Kozue after getting booted >from the WDF's advanced fighter school, where Starbuck (the elder) >drops in. I believe there's also a scene in the New Avalon Chet's in Requiem for a Lensman; I forget how the waiter was dressed that time. They're always some kind of White Legion or MILARM personnel, but the front-of-house staff are not customarily dressed as Chet himself - the usual response when customers (usually parents who have their children with them) ask is that he's on assignment with the Fleet just then. --G. -><- Benjamin D. Hmm, what was I thinking of, then? I know there's another besides the Requiem one and the Rogue Squadron one. Oh! I know. The scrapped scene from Bagatelles where Corwin runs into Rei, that happened in a Chet's. No mention of what the waitress is wearing, though. --G. ... sounds kind of dirty when you put it that way. Thanks for the reminder, I'd forgotten all about that outtake, and the extra snippets of Rei's background story.FWIW, I still get a giggle out of Corwin's noticing that the TIE fighter hung up on the wall isn't a display model: "It's not like it would have -cost- them anything." -- Unable to save the day: File is read-only.

I mostly got Chet through the forum posts and backmatter, though I think there was at least one time Gryph put up a link to an old clone trooper toy who did, in fact, have orange stripes who was supposed to be Chet's inspiration.

I believe this is the very first mention of Chet the Safety Trooper; at least, it contains the picture and origin story of which you speak. --G. -><- Benjamin D.
