Office of Resident Life

July 12, 2409

Dear Miss Woods,

This letter is a followup to the formal notice you will have received last month from the office of President Tiefeld. Congratulations once again on your acceptance to the Institute!

The Resident Life Office has reviewed your student housing application and determined that the following residence assignment best fits your preferences expressed therein:

Residence Group W - HANNIBAL HAMLIN HALL
Room 404

This is a double-occupancy room. Also based on your application preferences, you have been assigned to share the room with:

TESLA, Mileva
2227B Westinghouse St.
New Avalon, Zeta Cygni
Cygnus Sector 2702

We encourage you to make contact with your new roommate before the semester starts, so that you may coordinate who brings which items on the Things to Have list in your Residence Life manual (which will arrive under separate cover), and so that you may begin developing the rapport you'll need to succeed as roommates at the Institute.

Your Resident Advisor will be:

STERLING, Kaname
Room 401

Your RA is one of the most important figures in your Resident Life experience, serving as the bridge between the student residents and the school's administration, and should be the first point of contact for any questions or concerns you have about life on your floor. You should try to meet your RA as soon as you can after arriving on campus next month.

In addition to the floor RAs, each Residence Hall at the Deedlit Satori Mandeville Memorial Institute is assigned a House Guide. These are adult volunteers, usually members of the Institute faculty or staff, who live on the premises and are available to help with any problems students may feel are too serious for a peer RA to handle.

Your Residence Hall's House Guide is:

KESSELRING, Friedrich A.G., Ph.D.
Professor Emeritus and Chair, Department of History
Room 101

So that you may begin familiarizing yourself with the facility, floor plans are attached.

Welcome to the Institute! We hope your resident experience is everything it can be, and that the friendships you'll form in this first year will last for a lifetime. If you have any questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to get in touch with this office.

Hm! Very interesting. Not sure who Ms. Woods is, but I can imagine who Ms. Tesla's father is. Of course, that tells me nothing about either person, although I am now curious.

Now, of course, I have this amusing image of any stalker getting close to Kaname's room getting near-incinerated (complete with black soot on face and frizzy hair) by a Tesla Coil, a la the Red Alert games.

My guess is that, given that both Nikola Tesla and his "son," Atomic Robo, are residing in the UF 'verse, that she's related to them.

My question is, who is Ms. Tesla's mother, and what did her genetics bring to the table?

Well, we do know that Atomic Robo (Dr. Tesla's only known "offspring") has met R. Dorothy Wainwright, and found her comely.

Beyond that, I will not speculate further... :)

given the nature of Atomic Robo, he could have found her with a magnet for all the difference it would make... he can produce offspring more-or-less at will with or without female assistance/participation.... :)

Of course, just because you can do without, doesn't mean you will.

Atomic Robo met R. Dorothy on September 19, 2409. The time stamp on this is July 12, 2409.

I know others have said it before, but the floor plans on this make me want to say it again. I've always been awed and impressed at the level of detail you and the Usual Suspects show off to the audience. It's these bits of information that make the world really pop and come to life, even if it's kind of throw away info in the world itself.

Thank you. 8)

Shame on the person in charge of Resident Life - President Tiefeld, at least, signed his form letter!

I'm assuming the person in charge of Resident Life is in charge of residence halls, and is not Claudia Montaigne, who had the title Dean of Student Life (sort of like the Dean of Students?) last I recall. (and if it *is* Claudia, she came across to me as having better manners than that!)

Yes, I'm messing around a bit - I agree with Soulscode about having all this background material being a good thing (as well as something to keep the masses happy)

The ResLife department is part of the Dean of Student Life's office. Student Life deals with quality-of-life issues on campus - housing, food, activities, clubs, Student Government, that kind of thing - so whoever is in charge of the ResLife office works for Dean Montaigne. The Dean of Students is a different office altogether - they handle academic and disciplinary matters, the Office of Student Records, and so forth.
