Series Spotlight: Road Roller

Road Roller. A shadowy flight into the dangerous world of a girl... who does not exist. Rin Kagamine: a young loner on a crusade to champion the cause of the innocent, the helpless, the powerless, in a world of criminals who operate above the law but are generally susceptible to having their stuff flattened.

Action-adventure series in which each episode is basically the same:
- Rin blows rather slowly into some dusty town on her computerized talking steamroller, Len.
- She meets, and not infrequently has an Ambiguous Romance Subplot with, a local (usually played by either Gumi or Haku Yowane) who explains how the people of the town are being oppressed/exploited/terrorized by somebody, usually a corrupt law enforcement official (generally played by Kaito or Gakupo Kamui) and/or manifestation of organized crime.
- The bad guys take exception to her snooping around and send thugs to rough her up and/or find out whom she works for.
- Len crashes rather slowly through a wall to the rescue.
- Rin and Len go rather slowly to the bad guys' headquarters and methodically flatten all their things.
- The town is saved. Rin rides rather slowly off into the sunset, leaving smooth pavement and grateful but frankly somewhat mystified townsfolk.

A strangely slow-paced action show, and outstandingly formulaic, but popular enough that it's now in its seventh season on Channel 39.

This entire entry is a Knight Rider reference. I assure you, the show was precisely this formulaic, and it took itself seriously. Which is half the joke. XD

I find myself envisioning Edward Mulhare playing a blue collar, road crew chief version of Devon Miles, complete with rhyming Cockney slang (or perhaps Irish, given that Mulhare himself was from County Cork), as the provider of exposition and mission briefing in every episode.

Ebony the Black Dragon

Thank you Eb. Couldn't remember who Devon's actor was and it was bugging me.

Now I'm imagining this being pitched as a rushed midseason replacement with the premise, "Road Roller is to Knight Rider as Police Squad! was to Dragnet."

>Molly: Teto Kasane

I'm glad she's still around, and still getting work. I wonder if she'll show up in an FI Eyrie work.

I imagine getting work is a necessity - gotta pay for server hosting and power bills somehow, right?

It seems likely that by the time Teto meets up with other Vocaloids again, she'll have a fairly steady life as a studio musician on some planet, if she hasn't become a star in her own right.

"You may not have heard of Teto Kasane, but if you listened to TomoPop between 2284 and 2370, you've heard her. She was to Tomodachi's pop music scene what Nile Rodgers was to 1980s pop music..."

Len and Rin fan that I am, I am curious as to what 'Road Roller' is about exactly. I'm sure it's been mentioned somewhere before.

If you hit "view all", there's a synopsis in one of the follow-up posts.

"Well, it does mean that I don't get any extra attention walking down the street, and Rin will tell you that the risks of getting mobbed by autograph hunters went up. On the other hand, smaller paycheck because I'm only doing voice-overs. It all evens out."

Was there MAD SCIENCE involved in creation or reconstruction of Len the Steamroller, so it ended up actually performing in realty as it does on screen (except without talking, because Len refuses to go inside)

Can crush potato beetles from the field of potatoes without harming a single plant! Main roller can ground lasers, plasma, blaster bolts and phasers in ground! Transdimentional vibroengine allows the Len to compact substrate in variable densities!
