<Z-Gryphon> <"Hi. I'm Candy." "OF COURSE YOU ARE.">
<Z-Gryphon> ... no, in all caps it just makes it seem like the Kurgan was played by Brian Blessed
<Z-Gryphon> which would have been AWESOME
<Z-Gryphon> but
<Slarti> hahaha
<Slarti> In that version, window explosions don't happen because of the Quickening; it's just the sheer force of Blessed booming out, "THERE CAN BE ONLY ONE!!"
<Z-Gryphon> "GOOD EVENING, LADIES. BLALALALALALA."
<Z-Gryphon> if you follow that thread for a while, too, you end up with Brian Blessed playing Lex Luthor in the Superman cartoon
<Slarti> hdeh
<Mephron> ...and then to our forums, with the mental image of Brian Blessed intoning, "Lunch Lady Doris, do you have any animal fat? *RIIIIIIIP* THEN GREASE ME UP, WOMAN!"
<Z-Gryphon> snrk

Am I even allowed to post here? Oh well, if so, watch the channel Dave. It has Brian Blessed advertising real ale in a pub with cracker jokes. MARVELLOUS!

Alas, the US apparently doesn't get it (at least my cable system doesn't). We just find Brian Blessed pretty awesome.

That would be because Brian Blessed is pretty awesome.

I was going to continue this post by saying "he's like an <adjective> <other awesome person>" but I discover that he's incomparable. Not in dimension, just in description.

There's a moment in one of the "Have I Got News For You" episodes I've seen, the one he hosts, where all episode he drops a hilarious line and takes a drink while people recover.

This moment is him finally giving up and grabbing and drinking straight from the pitcher. I don't even remember the line, just that they show one of the guests laughing out loud, then flashes to him reaching, grabbing the pitcher, and drinking. Absolutely brilliant.

Heh, they mention Dave occasionally on Top Gear, usually in some snarky context involving daytime reruns (since I gather that's basically what Dave does).

"Sadly, this is the last episode in the series. But don't worry, we'll be back in the autumn. Unless you're watching this on Dave, in which case we'll be on again in a minute or two and we hope you find a job soon."

I'm pretty sure they premiered the Red Dwarf specials earlier in the year, so they can't be all bad.

Indeed they did! They are also engaging in the ancient, forbidden rites of the lawyer in order to get permission to script up and make a ninth series of Dwarf.

For the benefit of Gryphon et al. Dave is a channel that plays the best of British telly. On a loop. The channel's been going for about two years now, and in that time it has commissioned two original series - Argumental, quite good, and Batteries Not Included, which is also quite good primarily because it has John Cleese point at inventions for most of its runtime.

Anything that keeps John Cleese employed is, in fact, good.

Quite so. Now drink your tea and start watching the black and white series of The Avengers. We'll make an Englishman of you yet!

Alas, I haven't been to visit my parents, but at some point I will take a photo of my father's video cabinet, which contains rather a lot of Avengers DVDs.

I sometimes ponder bringing Cathy Gale, or a descendent thereof, in, but I don't think I have a chance in Niflheim of getting a good part for her.

Now, that gives me an idea. Pity Ben would never let me write it. :)

"This script is rubbish! I don't care if you're paying me a million dollars for this, I wouldn't take this part if you held a gun to my head!"

"Well, all right, I take back the bit about holding a gun to my head..."
