<Z-Gryphon> man, if I were a futbol fan, I would... well, require a mercy killing, I think, at this point, because it's World Cup season and I would not have been able to shut up about it for more than 11 seconds all week
<Z-Gryphon> but aside from that, I would be so tempted to go to a game where I knew there'd be a lot of those things?
<Z-Gryphon> and take my TROMBONE
<Z-Gryphon> SUCK ON THAT, FAKE HORN PLAYERS
<Z-Gryphon> CAN YOU DO A GLISSANDO? I DIDN'T FUCKING THINK SO
<Z-Gryphon> AAAA-OOOOOO-AAAAAAA!
<Z-Gryphon> :)

I do not know why, but OpenDNS hates your link. Labels it as a phishing site.

That's odd, it's doing that to me today too but yesterday it didn't.

OpenDNS shouldn't hate it because it's a phishing site...OpenDNS should hate it because it's F'ING OBXNOXIOUS.

Probably because it's malformed - it's the proper "vuvelza-time" site, and then a link to this very board, all jammed together.

Sadly, the vuvuzela -isn't- the biggest sonic weapon in the Bafana Bafana (hell, that's fun to say) arsenal. That belongs to the kuduzela, which FIFA banned from games because 30,000 of them in concert would cause incipient deafness in people nine miles away and give players shellshock.

Also, 'grats on the US team's performances so far. Good side, playing well, really deserved to win against Slovenia. Definitely deserve to top the group, at least more so than the shambles that is England at present.

My buddy is a pretty big sports fan, and learned somewhere that vuvuzelas have to be under 3 feet long to be allowed in. Which would put the kibosh on Gryphon's plan...unless he could get his hands on what I have seen referred to as both a soprano trombone and a slide trumpet. Hey, it's under 3 feet...

So's a trombone... when it's disassembled.

To his great surprise, the man walking in with a trombone case had a trombone in it.

Are you saying that's not acceptable in the pursuit of a cause as worthy as the punishment of vuvuzelists?

I think that someone on the security detail might be convinced to let you in given how many non-fans have violent thoughts about what to do with those things.

The advent of the "vuvu horn" and the passion with which South African hooligans fans defend it as part of the "essential experience" and "tradition" have only served as further evidence of a long-held opinion of mine: fans of any game known as "football" will fiercely assert their right to be huge, inconsiderate, destructive jerks to everyone else unlucky enough to share the same city, let alone stadium, as their big event(s).

(And I actually enjoy soccer, as a casual player. Or used to.)

This one is, at least, semi-justified - the vuvuzela and its even louder cousin have been taken to South African club football games for ages. It's just something to make a noise, and if you've got a three-foot horn made of old, melted-down tyres designed to scare gibbons off (and let's be clear, gibbons are psychopaths) then a certain type of person is going to use it at a football game.

Also, this clip should brighten vuvu-haters' collective day:

That's right, Large Algerian Gentleman, clock him one upside his fool head.

I think I had at the front of my mind Ross Scott's Gordon Freeman (from Freeman's Mind), but that is certainly an acceptable alternative. :)
