Most of the players in the Rose Tournament are officers of Ohtori Academy's high school division's student council (Saionji and Touga are seniors, for instance, and I think Juri's a junior), and part of the show's introductory plot is that they're all baffled by the appearance of this young upstart in the midst of their carefully planned upperclass craziness.
