#0, Darth Vader Questions
Posted by Offsides on Jul-25-12 at 03:42 PM
So I just finished re-reading all of WOR, and I have a couple of questions about Darth Vader as he appears in UF:

1) I'm guessing that his voice is still that of James Earl Jones, but I'm having trouble picturing who his face is "modeled" after. Is there anyone in particular, or is it just a description that you thought worked nicely?

2) Is Darth Vader aware that Kahm Santova is still alive (at least I think she still is, I know she's Rianna's Mother), and if so have they reconnected? Given their past relationship (and the barriers his injuries and suit posed at the time), I wonder what they'd think of each other now...

In my head, he looks like a slightly older version of King Kashue of Flaim from Record of Lodoss War.

We've played around with the idea (or a related one) a few times - there's even a draft scene of Vader meeting Rianna kicking around in the files somewhere, originally put together for an earlier concept of a sequel to Road Movie. It didn't get used, as that project didn't go ahead, and we haven't revisited the idea in a while - Larry is very particular about the uses to which his characters are put.

As for Kahm herself, I believe she's still around someplace, but Lord Vader is probably not yet aware of this. Chances are if they did run across each other, they'd either fight to the death or end up becoming the Oberon and Faella of a galaxy-striding dynasty the likes of which has never been seen before. Neither is probably advisable in the long term, so perhaps it's best if we keep them apart. :)

I had imagined Vader as looking something like a younger, less scruffy Nemo, seeing as he's related to Nadia. Heck, he even does the "I am your father" scene.

Last time this question came up, you posted this pic:

What can I say, I have a weird memory...

OK - based on the description, it looks like that pic is a little lighter skinned than the text description, but that's easy to make the mental adjustment on.

Thanks!

Oddly enough, this was the caption when he posted it:

"Vader's skin tone is darker, his hair's going silver at the temples, and his beard's a bit fuller, but Kashue could play him in a movie. :)"

Honestly, I'm see them greeting each other in a cool and cordial manner like the much-parodied Wrex-Shepherd greetings, followed by some witty, dry dialogue about their respective students, Rianna and Ayanami.

And that would be about that. Oh, and maybe some off-screen meeting that's only hinted at... and, hey! Who's this young up-and-coming Sith Lord? (No, not that they're really 'together', but I'd imagine it'd be something similar to Skuld and Gryphon's relationship.)

I feel the need to add additional question:
Will Darth Vader and Anakin Skywalker, student of Saionji, ever meet?

It's big universe, but on the other hand, it's very small one.

It seems likely they will eventually. They know a lot of the same people...

That's very true.

There would be a lot of cosmic irony involved. Either for them or for people who experience them together.

"Are you sure he's not your clone?"
"Force and Destiny plays weird games"
and so on.

To quote Blades:

I've got an invitation from Len Hutchins to come visit him after we
finish dealing with all this crap; he's apparently got a Padawan now.
So the next time you and Ani-chan go visit, there'll be somebody he
can spar with who can parry that Big, Scary Weapon of his and be
offended by his temper. Hope things are going well with his training -
I haven't had much news from the Inner Sectors lately.

And at the end of Blades, Juni meets Darth Vader. So people who have already met Anakin Skywalker have also met Anakyn shar Atrados. I don't know exactly what goes on in Juni's head, but given her implied interactions with Ani-chan, heh. Heh. Heh.

Kinda interesting how this thread is turning Darth Vader into the Kevin Bacon of the UF-verse...

If you count stage performances (which they generally don't), I have a Vader number of 3. Or, well, a James Earl Jones number of 3, at least. Maybe that means a Vader number of 4? I think I have to go to 5 if we're counting from Prowse. Anyway, the important point is, no one cares.
