Adam Kopala's done it again, and with a vaguer starting spec than he had for the Phoenix Queen; all I did for this one was point him at the Gamilon ships page at shipschematics.net and say basically, "She's a Gamilon destroyer, but not one of the canonical ones. Bit more advanced. Lots and lots of guns."

(Click for bigger! Also available in super extra large.)

The guns are hot, the hull is ringing,
The engines sing the sound of triumph;
And every one aboard awaits
A prize upon the high horizon.
Hand and weapon! Heart and power!
Cry it with the voice of Empire!
Victory and prize and plunder!
Vengeance flies at morning!

Awesome - I would totally buy that as a Gamilon ship! Will we see a miniature anytime soon?

I'm not sure; Adam's working on a suitable 3D object file, as he did for the Phoenix Queen, but until I have it and can plug it into the system at Shapeways, I won't know if it's suitable for printing. (I expect it is, it's a pretty simple shape all things considered, but there's no way to be certain without testing it.)

That said, if it is suitable, I may or may not have the money to get it made until school resumes this fall anyway; and then there's Dave's turnaround time if and when he's up for painting it. You may need to adjust your assumptions regarding what "soon" means, is all I'm saying. :)

(For reference, a quick check of the relevant email trails indicates that the Phoenix Queen model took about five weeks from the time I received the .OBJ file from Adam - two for Shapeways to make it and get it to me, two for UPS Ground shipping to and from Dave, and one for Dave to paint it.)

In-universe, it's always tickled me how a Gamilon warship managed to become so associated with the theme song of (in some Philistines' opinion) a cheesy Klingon sci-fi show. It's probably Utena's fault, I'm sure I remember her starting the gang singing it once when Amanda was leaving B6.

The becrogglement of newly assigned crew the firat time they hear it is probably something that shouldn't-be-but-is really funny, too.

It's stated that Amanda and her brother were fans of the show since they were children (in 'Hunted Rose', the day after the Prom. And I believe there's a reference to it in 'Pavane for a Dead Princess' as well.)

Indeed, that is the reason why Garon's command is that particular ship. During the process of arranging for himself to be quietly shuffled into a minor command in the Imperial Navy, he managed to work the system such that a) he would be assigned a new-construction vessel and b) that's what it would be called.

A lot of people in the Gamilon military establishment who aren't in on the succession conspiracy (let's be honest, that's what it is) think it was only through a flagrant abuse of the Navy bureaucracy that so junior and, let's face it, undistinguished an officer as Garon Dessler has been given command of a brand-new, state-of-the-art K'tayyl-class destroyer. And it was! Just not the one they think. :)

Ooo. I had a mental picture of something a little flatter / sharper, but this works quite well, yes it does.
