#0, after a mere four and a half years...

(more like five and a half if you count time in which I didn't bother playing at all)

Big thanks to Ardie, Wedge and Deej for making last night's marathon finish happen, and of course to Truss for providing Cap's mentor through all the levels he was a Faithful Sidekick. I doubt he'd have made it without Twilight Torch. :)

(It's a little sad that I can look at that and instantly know that they were in Talos Island and he was between levels 20 and 25. :)

It's worth noting that Cap is making the comment in the first pic in reference to Rotini Barilla and Harry S. Truman standing just out of frame firing off every power they had that doesn't rely on having a targeted foe, up to and including our nukes and, in Harry's case, a rather satisfying display of Self Destruction.

Congratulations, sir!

And no, it's not sad. The level identification is kind of impressive, but Talos is easy to get to know.

Sad would be being able to pinpoint a particular part of Astoria. ^_^

Congradulations on becoming hero of the city! Its been years since I've played CoH's does this mean you've maxed out on levels?

Yep. Hero of the City is the badge you get for reaching level 50, which is the current (and hopefully permanent, but you never know with MMOs) level cap.

I can understand getting his bootprint cast into the sidewalk to commemorate the occasion, but I don't think that's how you do it... :)

Congratulations!

And there was much rejoicing :)

I blame you all here for my having entered the game. Didn't MMO before CoH, and then not until well after the stories started showing up here. But I'm glad I jumped, and glad I ended up on Virtue. Its been a good time.

It almost makes me wanna go back into CoH with Seven of Spades (last seen at 27 about, oh... three or so years back.)

Almost. Champions Online is looking more like my super-speed, since I have a vested interest in the HERO System. We'll see, someday.

I'm told there's very little resemblance.

Somewhat--I've seen the specs. The only solid IP used from the HERO line is the Champions Universe itself--but at the least the power-picking resembles the method in the sense that you're not confined to a particular powerset like CoH does.

I do wish I was there on launch, just so that I can see what ridiculous concepts/names come out before Cryptic goes through the lists themselves. :D

If you want to see how the game's changed, you can reinstall it in the next few days. There's a "four-day weekend" of double XP and access for all inactive accounts on October 8-10th.

Here's the manual for Champions Online that gives a rundown of the character creation system it uses. I've been told it's not the HERO system, but I wouldn't know.

It isn't. It's got some obvious nods to it, particularly the stats. But it's at best a kissing cousin.

You think you have a vested interest in the HERO system? I playtested the last published 5th Edition adventure and proofread the first 6th Ed adventure.

And my GM wrote both of them.

And if they didn't sell well, he'd be sad.

That's vested interest: making sure a man almost in his 40s doesn't blubber like an infant.

DOJ Logistics

Whose older brother and his wife runs that out in the middle of nowhere? :D

HERO System is, of course, their largest product in the warehouses; which is not surprising because he started work as their secretary while his wife officially became the Office Goddess.

Now that is vested interest. (Not to mention the pains of writing a sourcebook myself; he makes Lucha Libre HERO with Watts look easy. And it was all his idea.)

Grats on 50, Gryphon! You've navigated the shores of alt-itis and on/off playin' to the top of the list.

(And I remember when 50th just meant you hoped for lots of upgrades from that oversized ameoba.)
