It's here!

"Hmm. Maybe we should post an ad," Jun mused, looking over the various notes pinned to the corkboard at the front of the store. "'Keyboard player wanted. Must be willing to transfer to Sato Academy. Experience at Art of Noise covers a plus.'"

2019.06.15 edit: I decided to try and get back into doing audio versions. This chapter is the first test item. I'm not entirely happy with it—something, either the asthma medication I was switched to a couple years ago or possibly just one of the many fun nuances of MS, seems to have damaged my voice a bit (and I know the slight faults in fine diction are an MS thing). Or maybe the raspiness is just my allergies. Either way, it's hard to judge the sound of one's own voice, but it felt off to me when I was recording it. Let me know what you think.

Oho! The plot thickens, and several threads begin to intertwine. Most engaging...

And now Miku is running around as well? Wherever this is going is gonna be -excellent-.

Well, at the moment she's more sort of wandering around, but... :)

So I'm going to take a wild guess and say that's not a Sinister Enemy Figure at the end, but everybody's favorite Sinister Ally Figure, Tatsuta.

"This is probably a stupid question, but . . ."

And I'm trying to remember if you'd specified if Shmikazi's MM looks like Kanmusu Shimikazi? *poi*

I didn't before, because her Mental Model never appeared on-screen in Cantata, but yes, she does. Although she isn't rigged out or dressed in her canonical unform in this story. Someone would have remarked on that, I'm sure. :)

Oh! Yeah. In fact, I planned that scene long enough ago that I got an illustration for it and then kind of forgot about it. She's dressed like this.

So there's no Watsonian reason for this to happen, but someone is going to suggest it and it might as well be me: the junior varsity should name their band "No-Kill Battleship Shelter". I will further speculate that the linked conversation had something to do with this chapter's title.

It's named after this song (they're all music references), but I did think of that thread when I picked it.

Just as a note, that throws up "Video is not available". Dunno if that's because it's not there, made private, or that I'm on another tectonic plate, but thought I'd mention it.

Hm. Must be a regional licensing thing; can't be a copyright strike, it's one of the "provided to YouTube by $recordlabel" ones. Anyway, it's "Shelter" by The Alarm, off their 1987 album Eye of the Hurricane.

A block away, unnoticed by any of them, a figure in a dark dress and a pillbox hat watched them go, then smiled and raised a hand to her ear, speaking in a quiet voice to the air.

Why, Ms. Waynewright, whatever are you up to? :)

Enjoyed this immensely! I think I've said this before, but watching the various Fog ships working their way through society and learning how to be a sapient being is something I find quite interesting.

You don't sound that off to me. You still have that "NPR-ready" voice that you've always had.

I honestly couldn't tell anything was off with your voice.
