In the next episode of The Federation Lives Forever!: Someone else had the idea of starting a Light Music Club at DSM at the same time as the girls of Hōkago Tea Time, and unlike Frame Shift, the newcomers this time are complete strangers.

Chapter Twenty-Two: "When Worlds Collide"

I rushed a bit to get this one out, OG Serial Experiment style, because I have to be out of the house for Personal Things tomorrow and I wanted to have this ep in the wild beforehand. Please excuse any lumps.

Sweet! And only one lump (Kohei? Kohai? You've used both now, and I'm prone to fall afoul of Emerson's observation on consistency.)

I suspect Sandstar's sound comes from whatever recordings were left behind when Meta Eridani III was abandoned in 2335. Most likely they combed through everything they could find before settling on one style they could agree on.

Kōhai, the "e" was a typo.

Pretty much, yeah. I kind of half-jokingly speculated in the Forum that some of it might date all the way back to a data solid Gryphon accidentally dropped in the woods during the Beast Wars. It's the kind of Ancient Artifact that Tsuchinoko would have collected. :)

They can do more than one style, but PM5K has a unique balance of heavy sound and campy scifi lyrics that really appeals to their sensibilities for some reason.

Ah, a wild release.

I must admit I was expecting their sound to be a little more like PPP, but maybe it's easier to get gigs when they're not doing the same old PePaPu schtick. Also how on Earth did they manage to get Tsuchikoko to agree to perform -- probably in front of a crowd, even?

Heck, Iwabi joined specifically to do something different than the Idol Thing.

She picked keyboards because they can be set up at the back and the operator stands behind them. She thinks with Kaban, Serval, and Shoebill out front, nobody will notice her.

There has to be a proper word for when two groups that adorable collide into further excellence. Sandstar and Hokago Tea Time are absolutely going to rock DSM, and I am all for it.

Moreover, the recruiting seems to have been successful in at least one case. Based on what we know of Corwin, either a) the Union Cores have bonded with the volunteer kanmusu in all cases, or b) Corwin is working overtime to figure out why they didn't all bond.

Oh hey, it those girls again. Didn't exactly expect them to turn up here, but that's perfectly logical as a way to get them educated about the wider world.

On a side note, did this show up in RSS for anyone? For whatever reason my feedreader didn't see this or the previous update.

Upon investigation, it appears I messed up the tags and accidentally dated both entries two years ago. Should be showing up now.

Shoebills aren't ducks, they're large African wading birds related to pelicans and herons (and strongly resembling storks).

Still, the avian connection is amusing, albeit unintentional. I made Shoebill the bass player because I thought it was the most fitting position for someone who looks so intimidating (doubly so because Shoebill doesn't mean to be intimidating).

Oh MY.

Somehow I can now see the LMC kind of intertwining... well, more like there are some members in each that share a mild interest in the other... with the Armor Heritage (since 'We don't actually DO Armorsport) club.

Only thing in the DSM 'side'(?) story vein is Kanami Kaname and Sosuke, who, most likely, if have not graduated (because I am HORRIBLE at corrilating dates to get them in order) are busy roaming around in general keeping order during club rush!

A quick re-read shows this is the start of Kaname's third year at DSM. So, yes, she's probably keeping order, which likely includes briefing Sosuke on the interesting new arrivals.

Actually, Kaname and Sousuke are juniors during the first episodes of DSMP (Lindsey’s a sophomore), which means by this point of the timeline, the two are now seniors. It is now Kaname’s third year at DSM, but that’s because she tried to have a “normal” year at Jindai High School in New Avalon during her freshman year while waiting for Lindsey to graduate and head to DSM.

Point of fact, Kaname has met Korra before while growing up (the latter babysat the former once or twice when meeting G’s friends in New Avalon - she did that a lot back in the day during her visits), and while not having met any of Naga’s progeny face-to-muzzle, Kaname’s seen pictures because Korra loves showing off pictures of her closest companions.

(Kaname also has passing familiarity with some of the Valkyrie, thanks to being Corwin’s friend since at least the third grade.)

Huh. I didn't know Kaname was that close to Corwin's family specifically. I sort of thought of all the Sterling daughters as doing their own thing much of the time in this day and age, and Mars Division in particular is a little out in left field, I'd think, from the norm.

I believe I'll go back and reread that Invid origin story again. =)

>Huh. I didn't know Kaname was that close to Corwin's family

Well, Komilia Sterling served with Gryphon directly in Eight-Ball Squadron during the Golden Age, Therese was a crew chief for the Eight-Balls, and Maia and Miranda were members of the Nazgul intelligence squadron, so they also worked closely with him back in the day. So Kaname's got at least one to two degrees of separation between her and the Hutchins family conglomeration, coming along whenever her parents and aunts get invited to any family parties.

While the Sterling Siblings all have wide and varied lifestyles across the known galaxy, Miranda Sterling and her husband Thade decided to settle down in New Avalon while raising Kaname and her sister through the grade school years. Mind, they still are active members of Mars Division, so are sometimes out on assignment, but enough relatives-of-wedge-defenders from the old days live in New Avalon that they felt comfortable leaving their progeny there unattended if needed.

It's been long enough since I read those that I'm not surprised I'd forgotten (or possibly never realized) this.

This part, I'm pretty sure I never knew. =) Makes plenty of sense, though.

You know, having played the Super Robot Wars games with the full FMP plot in them, it makes me wonder what would happen if an attempt was made to somehow adapt them, including Leonard, Gates, the Belial, Amalgam... Kaname Sagara and the TAROS and the plan to reset the universe... all of that crazy stuff.

It is safe to say none of that is going to happen. We’ve got our own crazy stuff planned, we don’t need to borrow others wholesale.

Not surprising, now that I think about it.
