Anyone else heard the commentary track on ADV's new DVD of Megazone 23 Part 1 yet?

Apparently there's some anime fan who legally changed his name to MegaZone. He is "a bit odd" but still a nice guy. It's apparently a bit of a shock to see his driver's license.

EDIT: Or at least, that's what the people doing the commentary track say.

Congrats to Zoner, who has taken yet another step towards a strange sort of immortality.

BWAAAA!?!?

Okay, now I definitely have to get my hands on that - if nothing else than to hear Zoner's commentary on the show.

And how in Hades did he manage to pull this off!?

I don't think it's EPU's Zoner that the commentary is by (or about).

Indeed, but rather that its mentioned in the commentary about how Zoner prefers being Zoner rather than his birth name.

I imagine I'd have heard if he had been asked to do the commentary, but it would surprise me quite a bit to learn that that particular anecdote was about anyone else.

Well, I guess that the only way we'll know for sure is if someone who knows Zoner procures the DVD and watches it for him/herself. That, or the big lug actually shows up and says so.

Zoner owns and has watched the DVD, AFAIK. The commentary track is not *by* Zoner, but the bit about the driver's license is most assuredly *about* him, as I doubt there are any other MegaZone 23 fans out there who have taken the same drastic step.

The commentary is by ADV Producers Dave Williams, Matt Greenfield, and Janice Williams, all of whom are friends of mine from my days of working in the industry, and yes, they are most definately talking about EPU's own MegaZone. I would have to agree with Ard, I can't imagine anyone else doing this sort of thing for much of anything. Changing to a character name, maybe, but something like MegaZone? Come on, picture it..."Hi, my name's Evangelion." Nahhhhh...

It is definitely about me. And I wasn't asked to do any commentary, sadly.

I know many of the folks at ADV, including all of those mentioned here. Since I was senior staff for AX for something like 12 years, and industry liason for AXNY, and attended who knows how many other cons - they all know me, and I they.

Now that I think about it, I believe I 'met' you while you were standing around and talking to Dave Williams at an Otakon several years back - I'm not sure we were even introduced, as we were getting ready to go out to eat and you had other plans. I DO remember us walking out onto the street as a group and you seperating from the rest of us, and the crowd parted for you just a little bit as you walked, at least from our perspective.

This would have been the second or third year at the Baltimore Convention Center, because the con had the whole BCC that year. I think it was the second - which would have been 2001, if I remember right.

Extraneous and useless info, I know - but hey, that's something I'm the master of.

Of course, now that I think about it, I think I would rather like to hear an EPU-core-members commentary track on Megazone 23. Get together with an open mic, a few mildly-intoxicating beverages of choice, and the disc, upload an mp3 to the net...

Sort of like this, only with more people...

Three things:

1. I will no longer be editing the posts of people who don't do their embedded links right. Come on, people, I know it's goofy and not like links are handled anywhere else in the world, but it's not like there aren't perfectly clear instructions available in the HTML reference window available from the link right next to every edit box in DCF-land:

URL is without the "http://";. Example: [link:www.dcscripts.com|DCScripts]

2. I'm really not moved by how much you paid for it, Chris, you're the only person on this board with a Colossal Sig Banner and it's bugging the shit out of me. Henceforth, users will please confine their embedded sig graphics to something akin to an LJ userpic or UBB avatar - say 100x100.

3. I don't really have a mildly-intoxicating beverage of choice, and I'm not sure I like Megazone23 enough to just sit and riff on it for public consumption. Part 2, maybe, but only if it was the wacky old English-as-a-Second-Language dub. I liked that dub, I don't care what you say.

Do you have a not-so-mildly-intoxicating beverage of choice?
