INT. DAY Classroom at Sato Academy. AZUSA is tending to her schoolwork when her phone vibrates with an incoming message. As she discreetly checks the message we see

INSERT SHOT Smartphone display. Three bars, 78 battery. TEXT scrolls onto the screen.

PREP MODE AND ARM / TRANSPORT: REPUBLIC CITY
PASSPORT FN / IMMEDIATE DISPATCH 423ZZ24
HOLD DESTINATION RC

AZUSA shows no measurable reaction as she closes the phone and puts it away.

If it wasn't for the fact that Mio would not handle the job well, this would make an interesting XCOM crossover.

Mental image:

Mio comes to her senses, in the center of a small saucer. She looks around - there are dismembered alien bodybits everywhere - she looks down - most of the gooey stuff she's covered in is green - and then she looks back, at where the rest of her team are leaning around the same side of one of the doors in with their heads stacked in a row. All of their eyes are very very wide.

Ritsu gives her a thumbs up anyway.

Mio goes to hide in her Corner Of Woe.

This reference has been made before around here, though not about Azusa. I don't actually get it, but will assume the right people do. :)

GLOBAL FREQUENCY is a comic book written by Warren Ellis, which probably means you either definitely do or definitely don't want to read it and I don't know which. :) (I haven't read it myself.)

As Warren Ellis books go, it's certainly easier to handle than some of his weirder stuff. I picked up the first volume on a lark, and loved it enough to buy the second the next week. Sadly, it only lasted 12 issues, but it was a great concept.

Details on the basic premise can be found here.

Yeah, count me in the "Wish there'd been more of that" category. Also would have loved the TV show they did a pilot for to go somewhere, but oh well.

More than likely by me. :)

That being said, while the comic was indeed the original source, I think the TV pilot (which can be found with little effort) is more fitting with UF. Although it may require some explanation as to why Ro Laren left Starfleet, disguised herself as a human, and started calling herself Miranda Zero. :)

(Or Helena Cain and the Colonial Fleet. Either works ;) )

Maybe Azusa is Yuumura Kirika, version 2.0? :) Sort of like Clint Barton Aaron Cross in "The Bourne Legacy"?

Heh, actually, around the studio we've decided that Yui must be the Outcome (Bourne Legacy) agent. Her occasional fits of absent-mindedness are because she's missed a dose of the blue pills.
