At roughly 5 AM this morning (exact time unknown, since the power was out by the time I thought to check), a tornado passed directly over my house. Luckily it did not cause significant damage to us, but nearby neighbors (nearby in the country sense, about a mile distant) were not so lucky. It tore down ancient oak trees, obliterated trailers, and destroyed houses in a swath that frankly hurts my head to contemplate for too long. It also tore the power grid to shreds, and we've only just gotten it restored along the main highway (along which I live, thankfully).

For all the destruction, however, only four people have been reported injured at last notice. Small blessing, considering that at least three times as many homes were destroyed or rendered otherwise unlivable, but homes are rebuildable; lives aren't.

Damn, son. At least it sounds like nobody died.

So far as I'm aware, there was only one person listed as unaccounted for by nightfall; he was down by the river, in a travel trailer. They found the trailer, but he wasn't in it. So... there's probably one death. But, it's not certain yet, so there's still hope.
