"Japan's space agency JAXA announced this week that it is looking at a plan to send a humanoid robot to the space station in 2013 that could communicate with the ground through Twitter...and provide astronauts with 'comfort and companionship.'"

The article is complete with a photo of Sylvie's grandmother. :)

Japan: Let's Work Hard and Be Weirder Every Day!

Doesn't totally work as an Engrish slogan because it makes grammatical sense, but I like to think the spirit is there.

I've heard it said that Japan throws out more weird s*** in a day than the rest of the world does all year.

Thanks to the magic of Google Translate, your slogan has been Japanified For Your Protection!

Japan: Hard Work Every Day, Strange Things!

Edit: Further translation efforts* result in Japan: Hard Every Day, Odd Jobs! Which feels like an entirely different slogan.

日本:ハード毎日、奇妙な仕事!

*No actual effort required.

>Japan: Hard Work Every Day, Strange Things!

That works on a lot of levels, based on my armchair gaijin conception of Japanese culture. :)

It could also be the IPO unofficial slogan.

It goes well with the WDFLSD's motto: "You should because you can"... or was it "That's a strange idea. Let's try it!"?

“They planned their campaigns just as you might make a splendid piece of harness. It looks very well; and answers very well; until it gets broken; and then you are done for. Now I made my campaigns of ropes. If anything went wrong, I tied a knot; and went on.”

LSD's was "You Should Because You Can". You may be thinking of the Stonewell Bellcom Special Veritechnology Projects Division (builders of such wonders of the galaxy as the submersible VF-1 and the Königmonster), whose motto was "That's So Crazy, It Just Might Work!"

Ah, OK. I think "That's a strange idea. Let's try it!" was a quote from one of the stories, rather than a motto. Of course, it might have been a quote from someone else's story, and I'm mixing them up.

Yeah, I remember reading about the submersible VF-1, and finding the idea amusing.

Was that the one codenamed "Skydiver"?

>LSD's was "You Should Because You Can".

It just occured to me that that particular accronym is rather fitting, given what that particular division got up to.

As noted in the original bits that referenced it, the acronym was not entirely a coincidence.
