#0, Personal configuration options change
Posted by MuninsFire on Nov-09-20 at 05:29 PM
Heya folks -

Long story short, it turns out that I'm trans.

I'll be using she/her pronouns going forward for here; if you know me in my professional capacity I'll be retaining 'they' for that field for convenience. Either works :-)

Welcome to the trans community! Your copy of the Terrifying Secret Trans Agenda will be mailed to you forthwith. =]

On a more serious note, if you ever need to talk/vent/whatever about trans stuff, you can always shoot me a message, ok?

The Terrifying Secret Trans Agenda is mostly variations on a theme of "make dress go spinny". =]

"Dress go spinny" is one of my girlfriend's and my favorite parts. Next time we get to see each other, we should do synchronized spinny.

Also, noting here: genderfluid, any pronouns are fine online, pronouns based on presentation or "they/them" IRL. Though putting the latter here seems incredibly optimistic on my part.

It is, and I have a lot of spinny to catch up with :-)

Being as I overthink -everything- (which, well, doesn't always mean I figure things out -fast-) I've also figured out "oh THIS is why hoodies are popular" as of this morning.

Still have to find the striped programmer socks tho. I don't usually wear socks XD

Also, I've got the Rust language book on order XD

That is, from what I hear, a very trans language. It's one I haven't focused on myself, though, as I'm more into Haskell, and therefore have a gender that can only be expressed in the fully dependently typed lambda calculus.

That's fine; I'm a professional and I still find haskell confusing XD

Hilariously tho - my dayjob, I'm currently a systems administrator, doing operations for a company that makes logistics software for transportation companies.

I am, literally, trans ops. ;-)

Thanks much :-)

Yeah, I'd been noticing, prior to realizing "oh wait yeah", that there were a lot in my field. I have some hypotheses about why that may be, but I may need to think them over a bit first.

We move in herds, y'know?

(Also, like, a whole generation of us is finally getting enough therapy and support to figure out our damage, and as such we have the tools to realize who we really are underneath the lovely strata of traumas.)

The coronavirus appears to have given a lot of people that space, or sometimes final push, to realise as well. I kind of feel like I came out early to avoid the queue.

congratulations? i'm not 100% clear on the response etiquette here... on the one hand, i guess you've always been trans... on the other hand, you seem to have come to an important self-realization... on the third hand (i live near a nuclear power plant, don't judge) you've taken the bold step of announcing your realization to the world at large (or this small segment of it) and those latter items are worthy of a small huzzah at least.

I'm happy to accept congrats if you wish to give 'em so - sure :-)

( Honestly, it's a huge novelty to be happy like this in -general- so... )

But yeah. Self-realizations and character growth and all that kind of thing is important and feels rather nice.

LAST EDITED ON Dec-28-21 AT 06:37 AM (EST)

Congratulations!

As chance would have it, and it sounds like it's out of the blue, but really, it's been ages since I posted last, but... well... you have another sister of choice here, if you'll have her.

(That's right, I too am trans, but haven't been able to transition because Navy and vulgar talking yam. Sometimes, the worst thing that can happen to a girl is timing.)

You do not have to transition to be trans. Your identity is valid regardless of your present ability to outwardly express it. Welcome to the sisterhood.

And here's a tip from another trans woman who cannot socially transition: "long coat go spinny" can be just as affirming as "dress go spinny". Hope that helps.

Can confirm. Also, 'cloak go spinny' is deeply satisfying.

And welcome to the party!

"Cloak go spinny" is satisfying regardless of "personal configuration options" :)
