#0, A question about parallel universes and the Starfleet
Posted by trigger on Aug-16-01 at 05:56 PM
I just re-read Split Infinitive.

When Gryphon and crew come back to the UF-universe, they again encounter Starfleet -- a star fleet with a James Kirk in it.

Does this mean Spock is in the UF-universe as well? The mind boggles at the thoughts of an older, Detian, Savak encountering her younger mentor.

Heck, how does Gryphon deal with the parallel universe thingy.

Yup.

That particular parallel dimension's time flow doesn't map cleanly onto the UF universe's. Exactly how it does map is a fiddly technical thing which would only be of interest to a dimensional engineer, so I skipped it.

I wasn't worried about the time flow. I figure the only ones interested think sideways.

I was interested in the personal aspect. I just think it would be wierd,

Well, you know, it's not like the Enterprise crew as ever encountered anything like that before.

For the record, that broke me good. Well done.

Pretty, pretty, please, with a cherry on top, and the promise of a case of alcohol if you do?

Great, now I'm gonna be sitting here all day thinking of Celf telling Corwin "Use the Force, young Ravenhair"

Well, since I'm not really all that fond of alcohol, that's not much of an incentive. :)

Actually, it reminded me of that episode of Futurama with Bender's evil twin who had a metallic goatee... except that since Bender is evil, Bender's twin was actually good.

Oooh. Now there's a nice mental image.

My mind won't let me mesh the pink hair and the slave outfit, but when I try to do it with Kate she immediately becomes a little older and looks more or less like Gwynn from Sluggy Freelance, especially during the recent possesion ugliness. How far off base am I?

mm... not too bad. Kate's hair is only very slightly curly (enough to tuck in a bit at the bottom and wave slightly), and she doesn't really look much like Gwynn, but you could do worse as a base for a mental image.

Kate would wear that outfit:

1) On a dare from any one of a very select group of people.
2) For Halloween.
3) For specific private and personal uses. :)

Utena would wear that outfit:

1) If she were nailed with a phaser on stun, then chained to a Hutt. And then she'd kill him, and anybody else who got close enough.

:)

Weirdly, I don't actually think she'd look good in that outfit. It's too... wrong for her.

Possibly, though I don't really think Juri is into that "chained to the throne and forced to dance, else fed to the Rancor" thing. Sure, she's a bit autocratic sometimes, but there are limits. :)

I'm now flashing to a piece of Sailor Moon art which has Haruka and Michiru sitting, arms around each other, on a bench, with this conversation:

Michiru: "Can I be frank with you?"
Haruka: "OK, but I get to be Frank next time."

ow.....
