Thicker Than Water concludes... again. For real this time! Gryphon has told Remilia the story of his preposterous life. Now he gets to wait and see what she makes of it...

Act VIII: "Être Stupide Ensemble"

Also, the omnibus linked above has been updated.

Phew! What a rocket ride. (Also, man alive there is a lot of hugging in this one. I'm going to be able to look back on this later and say, "Ah yes, this was written at the height of Social Distancing. You can tell because of all the skinship." :)

It seems Flandre is doing much better, but not, understandably, completely out of the deep, dark woods. Or maybe from a slightly different angle she is, but not without some predictable scars.

For all that she's immortal and centuries old, Remilia doesn't actually waste much time. Though at least one motivation as to why is suggested by conversation.

G should really know better by now than to tempt fate, even mentally, like he does at the end.

Yeah, she's likely to be a little bit... brittle for a while. But, on the plus side, she has a great support system now.

Part of the problem she faces now, alongside the bad (if fuzzy and jumbled) memories, the lost time, and the knowledge of the things she did toward the end of her time in the weeds, is that she was turned at a very delicate age, and now that her mind can grow again, she's still got a long-delayed (mental, if not physical) adolescence to get through. That can be a bewildering experience when you arrive at it normally, let alone the way she did.

Indeed. She's had "eh, I'm immortal" procrastination bite her a couple of times now. Although, that said, we don't know how long the engagement will be. Presumably not decades, which, as she alludes to, was not unusual for betrothals among the older vampire families in the Elder Days, but, y'know. More than a week.

(Also, as with anything else, there's normal due deliberation, and then there's wartime due deliberation.)

>G should really know better by now than to tempt fate, even mentally,
>like he does at the end.

He firmly believes it doesn't count if you don't say it out loud. I'm not saying he's necessarily right, but that's what he believes. :)

"Hey, kids. It'e good to be back. I just wanted to let you know that I'm engaged to a vampire from another universe. You're all invited to the wedding, assuming I can dragoon the Doctor into doing the transport. Also, there's a war going on against aliens over there. If some of them attack during the wedding, try to let the local witches take care of it. They're good kids and I don't want the brass breathing down their necks again."

Well, I suppose that's a bit more workable than, "I got married in the five minutes since I vanished. And I helped win a war. Time travel, you know how that works. Anyway! This is Remilia..."

(Gryphon probably has a full set of the So You... series, and it's likely that his kids have read them all, because they wanted a book to read, and the weather wasn't cooperating with going to the library.)

There might not be anything that specific, but So You Became Unstuck in Time probably covers what's happening from Gryphon's side, and how to help one's friends and relatives deal with your living multiple years while they've only experienced a fraction of that time.

It doesn't take much imagination to understand dealing with it from the view of the friends and relatives.

That’s the popular follow-up book, So Someone You Know Became Unstuck in Time, also available with the former in a cheaper two-book set.
