Now, I get that some of y'all are ancient graybeards that grew up using BBS and Usenet and such where threaded discussion is normal, but having everything laid out in a fashion you'd find on any modern forum would be nice. It's obnoxious when I go to a thread I've been posting in and try to find the lastest posts and I can't because they are buried god knows where in the mess of threads.

We had this discussion almost exactly one year ago. It's still not going to happen.

Without wanting to sound too much like a grumpy bastard...a discussion started by the same person, no less.

I'm using my limited and long neglected skills in programming to try and imagine just what it would take to try and make this old software work like that. Without causing total code implosion somewhere and making more of the old threads disappear in a puff of 'divide by zero' while no one is looking. My brain keeps returning to a line from Atomic Robo.

I know it's horribly complex to read down the list of numbers on the right and find the largest numbers, but it's a remarkably robust algorithm once you finish debugging it.

I use the black magic known as Control-F. It's a little inexact, and you occasionally need to sacrifice a chicken or two in a pentagon, but it works.

You sacrifice chickens in a pentagram.

You sacrifice sanity in the Pentagon

And you assemble a dodecahedron from a dozen pentagons.

And then we all get to play a game called Global Thermonuclear War.

I just look at the tree diagram and do one of two things:

Open the new posts in new tabs, (if there are only a few and/or they are scattered).

Make note of where the active subthread is before showing everything.

If you open a topic with new posts by clicking on the colored icon rather than the title, the tree view keeps the new posts with the colored icons. Show All at that point will keep the colored icons, so it is easy to then jump to the first new post in the fully-expanded list. Browser back button should return to the previous location (tree view).
