"Pictures of the SDF-17 Wayward Son?"

Hey, Gryphon, or any of you Rabid Crack Weasels,

I'm working on a piece of art, actually a bookcover, and I'd like to include an image of the SDF-17 Wayward Son. I understand it looks very similar to the SDF-1 in Macross/Robotech, but it has some differences, including the space where the Wedge Robot sits. So, instead of just making a direct copy of the SDF-1, I'd like to use a more accurate depiction of the UF version. Anybody made a drawing of this vessel they'd let me use?

FYI, it's going to be a thoroughly modern bookbinding, made of machined aluminum of my own design. Coloring will be done with anodizing and dying, as well as fused-glass enamel. Designs, including lettering, will be etched with a small sandblaster. I like the "shield" that the webmaster has designed for each section of UF, such as Core, Golden Age, Exile and FI, and will use that as part of my design/color scheme. Quite nifty, IMHO.

It will be the first in a set of volumes, containing a printed version of the UF stories, for my own offline reading enjoyment. I understand that Gryphon, et al, will be writing more stories, so I have reflected that in my binding design: it will be able to expand as more stories are added. Hopefully, I can bind as fast as Gryphon can write, considering that I have no experience with bookbinding whatsoever, other than observations of others' work.

Anyway, some help with obtaining an image of the SDF-17 will be appreciated. Pictures of the finished works will be posted as created, on a very indeterminate time frame.

Sean

Wow! That sounds like a helluva project, not to mention one with potentially beautiful results. I hope you'll post photos when you're done.
I wish I could help more, but I hope the moral support counts for something...

The Wedge is covered by armor plating when installed in the SDF-17, so it can't be seen from outside except as a row of insignificantly small windows on the conning tower. Aside from the markings (there's an Autobot shield on the armor slope forward of the conning tower and seventeens instead of ones), it's outwardly identical to the TV version of the SDF-1 (since we lost the ARMD platforms in the Second Battle of Worcester and replaced them with Daedalus and Prometheus).
