"Rediscovery"

<18> They're made of an extremely complicated composite material that involves a couple of elements from the island of stability. -G

<81> "There's a man who lives a life of danger / To everyone he meets he stays a stranger". Which is very how he's lived his life up to this point.

<100> Cain may be reformed, but he's still a bad influence on Paige.

<106> Apparently the paperwork buster that Vision came up with still works just as well.

<118> This really could have been worked out better. I was trying for 'cryptic zen samurai master' and I got 'someone forgot to shake the Boggle cube up'.

<133> This is the New Avalon branch of Deru-Val and Sons. And since it's right around the corner from IPO headquarters, it's the go-to place when an agent needs anything from a jumpsuit to a tuxedo for a sudden mission somewhere.

<141> A lot of them, for the reasons mentioned above.

<171> Kurt's such a braggart.

<173> Kurt's mother was sometimes wont to say this as well (as is her local DC, whom we haven't met yet), although she meant it... differently. -G

<177> It's not mentioned here, but they've had a couple of less-than-completely-kosher guests go through, and the 'basement bedroom' has its share of surveillance devices and defences. Why them? Between the two of them, Kurt and Peter probably could take down anyone up to a member of the Magnificent Ten.

<226> Kurt's philosophy here is based on when I started reading X-Men, when you could open an issue and find them playing baseball, instead of angsting.

<228> Kurt was, at this point in time, a fairly devout Roman Catholic. Then they had a pretty stupid arc with him entering the priesthood, but not entering it, and we'll just forget about it. But he could still discuss theology fairly well.

<231> Logan's got a good sense of humor, really. He's just hidden it beneath anger, grumpiness, and more body hair than you really should have.

<250> No one is ever really ready for their first exposure to Captain Derek Bacon.

<268> It was my favorite flavor of ice cream growing up, but it has sadly mostly disappeared from the shelves since. It is chocolate ice cream with swirls of marshmallow, roasted almonds, & chocolate chips mixed in.

<276> Some people play solitaire, some people draw. He cleans his guns.

<287> Only the finest of Big Fire training kept him from going "Mother Mary, what was THAT?"

<325> The first big sign of how emotionally broken he is, and really the first step to him breaking through the wall he's put up.

<334> The IPO can do some amazing things with justice systems, can't they?

<342> Harsh, Pete. Harsh. -G

<345> Happiness may not be a warm gun, but security probably is.

<364> As this scene shows, he's a devout Catholic, to the point of reciting prayers in Latin. This is because Latin has an excellent cadence for recitation, such as in the patterns that the Ignatine gun kata uses.

<380> ...which is what the Daodan is supposed to do. Make you better, faster, stronger.

<389> Thirteen generations and they still all have that damn mustache. It might be passed down from generation to generation, like some horrific legacy.

<416> After he gets back from a hockey game on Tomodachi, of course.

<436> a Plasma Ejector basically fires a magnetically-sealed packet of hydrogen plasma, which eventually destabilizes and then lets the plasma out with a pretty explosive effect, although it's designed to have the packet rupture when it hits something. It's not quite as stable as a good old-fashioned rocket launcher or RPG, but it does have an excellent destruction percentage when you want there to be no evidence at all.

<451> It's actually a running joke with the character: he keeps meeting women in the WORST situations. Nothing beats his first encounter with Sara Sidle, though.

<480> "No the game never ends when your whole world depends / On the turn of a friendly card."

<509> You think of him as a samurai, but Gryphon's got a a lot of experience in combat, enough that people sometimes don't even see him knock them out. Geoff was LUCKY here.

<564> As seen in Symphony No. 4: A Night to Remember. -G

<572> Goto can be so pleasant because he knows that if that gun gets pulled Lebia will activate an array of stun weapons in the room.

<580> This has been used by real-world spies. And yes, the complexity is supposed to be deceptively simple on the surface with a lot of layered meaning underneath.

<599> It was. They did take him seriously, and there were no IPO casualties on the raid. They didn't get the Q-Boss, and Agent A wasn't even there.

<653> The Judges that work Customs are the public face people see when visiting Zardon for the first time; it behooves them to put people in who are personable and pleasant, unlike the galactic reputation of them as being completely businesslike and utterly gruff.

<681> This is what a Judge calls a 'joke'. This is why there's been no successful Judge-Comedian yet.

<693> There's no musical tag here, but it was worked on to another Alan Parsons Project song, Games People Play. "Where do we go from here, now that all of the children are grown up?"

<704> it's not stated, but implied, that he's either repressed a lot of memories, or they've been messed with - another similarity with the man who will become his IPO mentor.

<722> in my head the new Xavier Institute looks like the version in the X-Men movies.

<758> The prerogative of a father figure.

<787> The original five X-men, followed by one of those aforementioned 'X-men Play Baseball' scenes.

<794> They may have travelled across dimensions, but they still honor their fallen friends. This shows the first Thunderbird, who died in X-Men 95, in battle against Count Nefaria, and their Scott Summers, revealed as dead or close to same during "Lost and Found", when they encounter Jean Grey.

<815> Basil is my own creation, but the name reference with his powers should be obvious; Arthur was called 'Artie' and a mascot/macguffin of the earliest issues of X-Factor, back before the people in the Marvel Universe knew it was a superhero team.

<822> That was his power: he could project images to communicate.

<905> The confirmation that, in fact, his head was badly messed with, begins here. I'm pretty happy with this scene.

<927> Akin to the Sleeper personalities that the Psi Corps uses, except the idea is to alter the desires of the person being affected, rather than to do a personalty block-overwrite. It's more subtle.

<939> This is actually quite canon - Xavier's psionic protection takes the form of a suit of armor around his form, and he does have a sword. The helmet's a little goofy, though. Actually, in retrospect, it's a great deal like a Spanish Conquistador's helmet, which is a dark reflection of Cervantes.

<1044> Komei is the Chief Strategist of Big Fire, and an utterly unrepentant bastard, to the point of arranging the deaths of Big Fire agents just to get things to go his way.

<1077> There's no default Big Fire IFF transponder code - it just repeats over and over "Together! Allegiance or Death! Big Fire!". How they got the 'legal' IFF call-and-response code for an IPO ping, one that would let them get through security, was unknown at the time.

<1094> Not Warren Worthington. A different Warren. -G

<1104> An actual Giant Robo villian. And yes, he DOES dress like John Travolta in 'Saturday Night Fever' and he does in fact make those infinitely-sharp force blasts by snapping his fingers. I did not get the chance, alas, to describe well his utterly goofy disco-inspired fighting style.

<1113> This bit could have been written better. This was supposed to be a series of his thoughts, as they went through his head, instead of speaking them out loud.

<1157> "You say that this wasn't in your plan? Don't mess around with the Demolition Man." Also done by the Police, but I prefer the one noted in the story better.

<1178> Yes, that bit there was inspired by the big ending fight of The Matrix Revolutions.

<1194> And for the first time, the Daodan's full power gets used.

<1247> For the record, the Black Hoods, purely by numbers.

<1262> Actually, Boba's armor bears the markings of the 12th Redfang Hussars, not the Death Watch, but since nobody much in the current epoch knows anything about ancient Mandalorian military units, it's an understandable lapse. As far as whoever compiled Big Fire's files on the subject was concerned, "Death Watch" was the term for the entire Mandalorian army. -G

<1307> Genya is the main antagoist of 'Giant Robo: The Day the Earth Stood Still', and with luck we'll see him again.

<1335> Ninja magic at its finest.

<1357> Alas, Charles cannot get Logan to call him 'Charles'.

<1384> When you fight with arguably one of the few people who could give Jackie Chan a run for his money, some people figure he's just a gunsel. They're really wrong, though.

<1392> Big Fire liked to keep track of any possible interfering meddlers. Like, say, the Byakuro Ichiban Shadow Society.

<1435> Some people never think they snore, either...

<1495> I'll just let you know here that he's probably the only retired professional assassin his age who still sleeps with a teddy bear. Deadpool may, but it's probably something from the It's Terrorsaur! Fuzzy Buddies line, and besides, he's a commando, not an assassin, if you want to get technical.

True. For example, Laura Kinney does not own a teddy bear, or indeed any form of plush animal. However, she does have a Scarlet Sentinel secret signal ring (mint, pre-Sonset). -G

<1503> Daodan overdrive comedown is a bitch. I know it's not that way in the game, but more realistically it should be like this.

<1516> I wanted a chance to show a lighter side of Logan. I think this has even appeared recently in canon.

<1519> This practice, it has to be said, is not particularly sanitary. -G

<1522> Running a daodan is hungry work.

<1623> "Less than pleased" means that Neo was told "Find out what he thought he was doing there, and correct his thinking forcefully." Neo's using his particular experiences to work with Geoff before issuing his recommendations to the Grammaton.

<1713> This will be a hallmark of the dealings between Geoff and Logan for some time to come - in 'Icebreaker', Logan had just finished dumping Geoff, gotten back to the cabin, and lit up. Then the strike team hit.

<1732> Whenever we see Jubilee aboard the TARDIS, she seems to be lying in the car reading something. It's taking on the flavor of a running gag. -G

<1787> Originally, before I knew about the Amazing X-Band, it was because Don couldn't sing. Gryph corrected me about that, and we decided he just was not a Pink Floyd fan.

<1800> Drill sergeants everywhere get a little frisson of glee at speaking that phrase.

<1843> If this was done on CSI, you'd get the Bullet's Eye View coming out of the barrel, then the overhead
cam of Logan dropping to the ground.

<1898> Logan's actually be a teacher/mentor to a lot of the X-Men in a lot of ways, starting with Kitty. Now he's got someone else to work with.

<1910> Now setting up one of the other interesting meetings Geoff will have...

<1925> Bleached right now.

<1947> Few bustle as happily as Belldandy Morisato.

<1962> As we see later, Urd isn't looking at him directly, she's looking at his Past.

<1967> Belldandy Magic.

<1973> At this point, 824.

<1987> "You had best not say yes, young man" is the best description of what Belldandy was thinking at him at this point.

<2018> A little something to keep him thinking.

<2060> Stargate!

<2084> Think about it, really. It makes sense.

<2012> Logan can be quite subtle sometimes when he delivers messages.

<2155> The theme song from Dai-Guard. -G

<2190> I'm still not quite sure where this appreciation came from. It just kind of fit.

<2198> also known as 'french toast'.

<2237> Being also of Germanic descent, I would consider this an excellent holiday dinner myself.

<2249> Peter was expecting "sometimes a girl just craves a big piece of meat" or something like that.

<2278> Part of those Swordmaster skills - in the Earthdawn canon! - includes wordplay and banter, as we've see before in her return from what became Jezebel. She's very good at that, and I like that phrase immensely.

<2286> Looks like Gryphon got his wish for a proper release of the Crimson Lizard movies. I'm sure Sumire appreciated the ...effort he put into arranging it.

Not so bad as all that; it's more "advice from a guy who's mentored way too many manufactured killing machines on being a person," than "cryptic zen samurai master," but I don't think Gryphon's character is suited for being cryptic in the first place.

I'd imagine that there's a few emergency sartorial needs that come down to, "(insert villain here) just ruined what I was wearing."

"Dude, weren't you slicing up zombies with those last night?"
"I washed 'em!"
"I've never seen him wash those things. Just pops them back into his forearms."
