"Hello..."

Well... I seem to have arrived with nothing bad happening thus far. It's early yet, I'll give it some time... *grins*

Well, let's see.. something about myself... I've been a fan of Eyrie since my first faltering steps onto the net back in 1996. I can't remember what brought me to Undocumented Features initially, but whatever it was, I read a little bit, felt (pun intended, and I will hide after the post) hopelessly lost, and then moved to France, where my net access was somewhat restricted. However, on the few jaunts that I DID make, I discovered NXE.
And lost sleep.
I then REdsicovered UF.
And lost more sleep.
And it was good.

Eyrie has pretty much been my main point of fanfiction consumption for the last six years, and I have yet to be dissatisfied with ANYTHING produced. I'd be lying if I said that I thought it was ALL outstanding, but that merely comes from my inherent nit-picky sense. Pay it no mind, or feel free to correct me as necessary. I enjoy a good argument.

I've met Megazone twice, although I seriously doubt he remembers me. Both times at Anime Expo (99 and 01), and the second time I might have annoyed him a bit too far with requests for photos (which didn't come out, more's the bloody pity). Both times I was struck with how... tall he really was. Reading about it doesn't do the man justice. *grins nervously*

Lessee, what else? I'm a United States Marine, a fact that I hope won't upset anyone on here. If it does, well... why let it come between people with a common interest in good reading?

I listen to a broad variety of musics; my collection has been increasing exponentially since I started reading Symphony of the Sword. As if I needed anything ELSE to sink my limited fundage into. *grins*

I read voraciously, as evidenced by my continuing return to eyrie.net on a daily basis. Mostly sci-fi and fantasy, although historical fiction and, more recently, the alternate history stylings of Harry Turtledove have been known to captivate me for weeks at a time.

My mind flutters a bit... if any of my posts take on a rambling and disjointed form, it's not intentional, I assure you... merely me being me. Hope you'll bear with me, and I sincerely hope that I'll be able to contribute something worthwhile here!

Semper Fidelis,
Charon

Hi and welcome to the club so to speak. 8)

As to you're being a marine, I've got no problem with it, my parents are both ex-army reservists (Canadian army that is), and any problem I have with the war on Iraq is aimed at Bush and company, as they're the ones who sent the troops there in the first place.

I'm a major bookworm myself when it comes to Sci-fi and fantasy, and as far as alternate history stories go, might I suggest S.M. Stirling's 'Island in the Sea of Time' and it's two sequels.

-------------
Lead me not to temptation, for I can find it myself.

   Allo, allo!

Marine, huh? No problem with that, only with me being recruited, that's all. Besides, my hair belongs to my fiance, and not me. ^_^;;;

Anywho, welcome to the forum. 'Bout time you found your way here. ^_^

As an Ex-Squid, all I can say is: Welcome, Jarhead!!! :)

Seriously, I doubt anyone here will give you a hard time about being on active duty with the Corps. One, we're all really laid back, and two, we accept people as they are. We don't get worked up unless your the sort of person who tends to ignite flames, rather than putting out the world's hot spots.

Besides, even if your the only Marine on the board, it can't be that bad... I recall on my last deployment we had a dozen Marines (probbobly crypies) on board. Now that would have to be a pain... being outnumbered at least 40 to 1, and none of us had any sort of of clue why the heck we were stuck with them.

Of COURSE you wernt expecting it!
No One expects the FANNISH INQUISITION!

   Ooh-rah, Squiddie! *grins*

I suppose it's only fair to point out that I'm not currently in the active duty component. I'm going to HAVE to be after college (Marine Officers are required to spend at least two years on active duty before joining a reserve unit), but, with the events of recent history, I'm one of the last Marines NOT on active duty.

If anything else flares up, this is going to put a SEVERE crimp in my social life, such as it isn't. *chuckles*
