"New Frontier Speculations"

Well, As Rickdominated said in response to the first trailer, KICK ASS!

Well, to start with, the most obvious theme from the trailers is 'Covenant War 2'.

Trailer one focuses on several of our favorite IPO agents. My initial interpretation is as follows:

- Steve Rogers' visit to Janice might involve her boyfriend (who's name I'm blanking on) being MIA/KIA.
- Silvar is unhappy
- Some ODSTs are a) quite possibly underestimating their targets (whomever they are) and b) in more trouble than they realize.
- More Covenant, Our favorite furry photographer and Truss, who's wondering when his last name became Connor. 8P
- Janice making a Decision, followed by the appearance of a new Spartan (Janice?)
- Xander Cage conversing with someone my subconscious insists on calling M.
- Skuld showing why she leads the Valkyries.

Trailer 2:
the quality/numbers of troops required to make this group of characters fall back/retreat is disturbing. I don't know what's in the droppods but they can't be good news, especially since this appears to be a Big Fire operation.
Sounds like there's be a strong need for urban renewal in the near future.

Trailer 3:
It looks like the cast of CSI:NA arebeing upgraded across the board, from cops, to super-cops. 8P Did someone order a bulk shipment of Interesting Times?

Cathrine + Kirk, going to be interesting.
Gotta wonder if Atomic Robo's dance partner is connected to the Covenant or just unfortunate timing.
Warrick hanging with Tesla
the CSI coroners seeing stuff even they aren't prepared for? yeesh.
Calleigh Appearantly picked a target that if not bullet resistant, appearantly doesn't have it's vulnerable spot where she expected.
Nick meets his dad

-------------
Lead me not to temptation, for I can find it myself.

Unfortunately, the final line of Trailer 4 seems to say so...

So... Covenant invasion of a large section of the galaxy (including New Avalon), terror groups mentioned during the meeting at the end of Twilight start making a big push, Kei comes back (which kind of makes me think she got nabbed by the Covenant in the first place), Cybertron is in trouble (hi Unicron) and suddenly Gryphon and Skuld are using their suits in the mortal world which suggests that some kind of fundamental change has happened.

It would appear that Surtur's plan is coming together.

Also some stuff happens with CSI and the monks. And apparently the Flying Nun.

It's really just the Griffin suit, since Skuld's already pulled out the Black Talon during the Exile. But still, you -know- it's going bad when that comes to play.

Well, theres always the XIII Iscariot guys from Hellsing
Regenerating Knife Throwing Paladin, Lightswitch Japanese Samurai Berserker Nun with Glasses (Approaching Fetish Critical Mass...) and a crazy German Gunslinger.
Then there's Hellsing's Nazis...

Anyway, I'm surprised no ones talking about what is apparently Nemesis Prime/Scourge smacking around Shockwave in Trailer 5
This whole Cybertron ark promises to be VERY interesting

The part that worries me is that, and I admit its probably due to playing this too much, that Dawn of War II just came out, and the droppod part instantly made me think of that. Also it'd likely neatly explain just why Sivar is pissed off as the IoM (or Chaos) makes war just to make war.

 Just some clarifications:

> - Silvar is unhappy

Obviously--he has plans on revitalizing the entire Kilrathi race, and this... Coveant nonsense is fast-tracking his plans too fast for his liking. But hey, he's a wargod--they tend to be notoriously good at making do. The only hint we have is that Chad's the linchpin of his plans...

> - Some ODSTs are a) quite possibly underestimating their targets (whomever they are) and b) in more trouble than they realize.

Given that this is likely to be Earthforce troops, I'm not suprised. The Psi Corps havea funny way of taking advantage of pre-existing conditions, and they'd be mighty interested in the Spartan formula...

> - Janice making a Decision, followed by the appearance of a new Spartan (Janice?)

Speak of the devil. I wouldn't hold my breath--Gryph hasn't said anything about sucessive generations of SPARTANs AFAIK. If we use the HALOverse material as reference, we can infer that the Salusian improved the orignal formula--there was a high rate of mortality among the first generation, with better rates in the second and third generations.

So I'm thinking Big Blue here is at least fourth generation quality, for the formula to be that sucessful as a rapid-deployable SPARTAN. (I will still say that it's possible for Janice to be one--she has the training and skills to be one, if not for the fact that Master Chief is also Salusian--we don't know if the procedure works on humans.)

-----
Percussive maitnence: the only way to ensure that you'll get new kit before the free service warranty expires. Pefferably with a deadblow hammer, but as long as you don't leave marks, the service engineer won't know.

The Salusian project's earlier revs were also somewhat less ambitious than those found in the source material, if I remember the early Halo novels right. They weren't trying to make a soldier with the full capabilities we see in a SPARTAN-III back in the first attempt. The early procedures were a lot less radical, and as such, they didn't have a catastrophic recruit mortality rate in SPARTAN-I or -II. The products were just less capable. SPARTAN-I troopers weren't so much Super-Soldiers as Really Good Soldiers.

The reason most of them are dead in the early 25th century is simply that SPARTAN-I was a long time ago. SPARTAN-II subjects received extended lifespans, but they also had very dangerous jobs, so there's only one of them left, and the SPARTAN-IIIs, well... they had the original Covenant War to contend with.

(As an aside, Project MJOLNIR actually ended up with longer legs than Project SPARTAN; after the Mark V, it changed from developing powered armor suits to cyborg parts, culminating in the the MJOLNIR Mk IX military/security cyborg full-body replacement system. In the present day it's still possible to find cyborg products branded with the "Mjolnir" name, but nowadays they're usually replacement parts for wounded soldiers and whatnot, built by the semi-private company (Mjolnir Systems) that the Salusian government spun off after the weapons-project part was wrapped up in the 22nd century.)

Either that, or the SPARTAN shown earlier in trailer #1 is another survivor. The Master Chief thinks he's the last of the SPARTANs. Tuncer thought he was the last Elite.
