"Getters Gone Wild!"
|
I figure this is the best place to ask this. I can't keep track of the various Getter Robos anymore. Is this right? Getter Robo: The original Getter Robo G: The sequel (called Starvengers, stateside) Getter Robo Armageddon: A side story that didn't go over well. Shin Getter Robo: A retelling of the original series. Neo Getter Robo: The enemies of the above. but where does "New Getter Robo" aka "Shin Getter Robo 2004" fit in? Is it another restart? (and how come nobody's ever done a Shin Grandizer, anyway?) Mario |

>Getter Robo Armageddon: A side story that didn't go over well. >Shin Getter Robo: A retelling of the original series. I think Getter Robo: Armageddon was the US title for Shin Getter Robo. The storyline kind of fits both of those criteria - it's a deeply confused sort-of-a-sequel to Getter Robo and Getter Robo G that takes bizarre liberties with the preceding material. There's a scene early in SGR in which Benkei, aka "Foul Tip" on Starvengers, chats about The Good Old Days on the Getter Team with Musashi, the guy who died at the end of the original series so Benkei could replace him. Musashi dies again later in SGR. As for what the deal was with Shin Getter Robo vs. Neo Getter Robo, I have no idea, except that I'm told Musashi dies in it. I guess that's kind of the requirement to make it an official Getter Robo product. --G. -><- Benjamin D. (NB: I know jack-all about Getter Robo canon.) A friend of mine and I wandered into a screening room at Anime Expo 2001 to watch some other show, and happened across a good chunk of Getter Robo: Armageddon. A good, loud, incoherent, WTF chunk of GRA. My friend leaned across to me and sagely noted: "Getter Robo: Armageddon was originally the creative work of Stanley Kubrick; however, upon the master's untimely death, the project was given to Steven Spielberg to complete." I broke so hard I almost got thrown out of the video room. QED. Ard Sumhenner that Janice chick Usual Suspect and general menace |

>"Getter Robo: Armageddon was originally the creative work of >Stanley Kubrick; however, upon the master's untimely death, the >project was given to Steven Spielberg to complete." Wow. That's just beautiful. (Whereas, if Spielberg had died and his new work had been given to Kubrick, the result would have been Shoujo Kakumei Utena. Now I have a way to explain SKU to people! Thanks!) -- Chad G.

>Shin Getter and Mazinkaiser seem to have more or less been adopted by >Go Nagai after their appearances in SRW. I'm not sure of Neo Getter >was also a Super Robot Wars creation, though. Right he liked the designs enough that he went ahead and used them. Actually Neo Getter was a Remake of Venger Robo Go Nagai's Alternative Retelling of the original Getter Robo, it was used as Go Getter Robo, and later used in a True Getter OVA as Neo Getter (from Neo Getter Tai Shin Getter) Light, the new avatar of chaos |
