Where are Nene, Priss and Linn during Twilight? Will we see them in part seven?
And where was Largo? Shouldn't he have been among the dishonored dead?
Oh, and where was that JJC that shot Redneck and led the CFMF into this hairbrained attack against the GENOM fleet?

Go read the last chapter of UF4. Ask where all the people mentioned THERE were.

I'm sure many of them were there, just not in an area we dealt with. IT's entirely possible that Linna and Nene were in a different part of the Afterlife; that Priss avoided Gryphon to avoid any personal unpleasantness she might feel dealing with Kei; and if I were Hela, I'd lock Largo up in his own damned dark hole in Niflheim and put a very large rock on it so he didn't get out and try to take over or just wreak tremendous havoc.

JJC was on The Third Ship From The Left and was blown up off-screen.

(The captain has now turned off the 'snarky bastard' light.)

How do you know he wasn't? It was a big army of the damned.

I didn't have the space, the time, or the inclination to try and list everybody in the Einherjar or the Damned...

That wasn't evil, just stupid. Stupid doesn't get you into Niflheim. Odds are he's just hanging around in Hel, which, despite its name, isn't one of the punishment afterlives; it's sort of the Land of the Not-Particularly-Distinguished Dead. They don't get to play in the Rangarok.

(Little kid voice) Awww, I wanna play....

Seriously, I'd like to see a meeting between JJ and Redneck. Maybe it's just me, but I think it might involve a trip into Low Asgard Orbit, depending on the mood Red's in at the time.

I for my part would really like to see Nene in Twilight 7. Since the Big BattleTM is over she could hang around with Gryphon or PCHamer remembering The Old DaysTM.

Stayed intact?! She could have hacked into a Biosculptankthingamabob and created herself a new body!

Yes Gryph! We want the fiery haired goddess back!
It doesen't even HAVE to be the regrow-body-screnario. EVE could have found Nene, stabelized(sp?) her and now she floating around the 'Net.

I kind of like her dead. I like that dynamic in the universe. It sucks to go through the processof a character dying, only to have them brought back a little later. One of many reasons I stopped reading Marvel Comics.

Actually we haven't seen her die yet.
Wev'e only seen her body die, but her mind was floating around the'net even after her body was blown to pieces AND we HAVEN'T seen her dissolving into random bits of information.

That is correct. However, the statement she leaves indicates that she won't be able to hold herself together for long. No need to show her dissolving explicitly when such an event can be left to the imagination.

Sure, they could bring her back, but that would ruin the impact of her death. Of course, this all my unsolicited opinion.

Noriko got better, but what happened to her still had impact.

But Noriko didn't die. She is a fantastic example of an incredibly important, violent, dramatic event can happen to a character without having to resort to killing them off and then bringing them back later. I'm a firm believer that if someone dies, they should stay dead.

In hopes of stopping this sub-thread:

Unless we think of some cool story which includes Nene being alive, you may presume that she is dead. Her presence, or lack thereof, at Ragnarok is not necessarily indicated by a lack of appearance in Twilight; after all, there are more heroes in the universe of 100 billion galaxies than the occupants of one 10,000 light year across sphere in one galaxy, no matter how blessed. We couldn't put -everybody- in.

But you have to admit, it isn't at all odd for a reader to expect to see deceased hero-type characters that were previously featured in (one or more) UF stories making at least a cameo appearance in Twilight at Ragnarok.

>Yeah, even Bob Hope dropped in Spies Like Us to play through.

We did the best we could here, folks. A few people we missed do drop in in Twilight 7 to say hi, but the fact of the matter is there is only so much you can do before you have to move on with the story.

As it is, we didn't do badly. The first WDF officer killed in combat makes an appearance. The Autobots killed at the beginning of the Transformers movie have a scene. James Watt, Patton and Rommel, the nameless trench warriors of World War 1... and we could have done so much more, had we space to do it in.

Hell, we have two characters in the story whose RL analogues really are dead, and we all hope they got to read it, wherever they are.

What I'm saying is, don't read any omission as deliberate, either of historical figures or UF co-stars. We didn't show Sakura from the Airbats as part of the Einjerhar's air corps, Bucky O'Hare didn't pop up in the space battle, Carson D. Carson wasn't among the dishonored dead. The only thing this means is, we didn't have anything for them to do, plot-wise, which wasn't already being done. It does not mean any of the above three are alive. They aren't, at least not until we find a -really- good reason to bring them back.

Now if you'll excuse me, I found some material in 'Die Hardly' that needs editing to fit in with current continuity.

For the record, I have no complaint, I was merely cracking wise. I realize it might not have been the best of jokes. I blame the fever and the Nyquil--not necessarily in that order.

Okay, you find me the Einherjar's First Hacker's Corps, and I'll allow that requesting a cameo by Nene would be reasonable.

Yes, she was reasonably effective in that hardsuit, but IIRC, she was often outgunned and in need of covering fire from the other Knight Sabers.

She could be with the Home Guard, in the city itself or at the field hospital, or she could be one of the operators in Odins Castle coordinating the whole mess.

That would be telling.

>And where was Largo? Shouldn't he have been among the dishonored dead?

No. Largo, if he is -really- dead (1), would end up where the Truly Evil Beyond All Redemption go; Muspelheim, or Surt, the Nine Circles, etc.

IOW, learning that even the most advanced robot should not have delusions of godhood.

>Oh, and where was that JJC that shot Redneck and led the CFMF into
>this hairbrained attack against the GENOM fleet?

I seriously thought about a scene showing JJ #18 and Redneck meeting. I decided against it, because even having JJ #18 on that field would dignify him beyond his merit, no matter which side he was on. He is of the Dishonored Dead, if that means anything to you; after all, he usurped his superior's command and made a vainglorious charge to destruction with it, singlehandedly causing the near annhilation of the CFMF. However, if he was on the field it was as a lowly foot soldier, and he would have deserted as soon as Hela died.

Redneck

(1) One of the nightmares held by GENOM officals is that Largo's memory engrams are still intact and active somewhere...

Which, of course, they were (at least, they were as of Twilight). Remember his appearance in Checkmate?

A friend of mine has a theory that Largo was SO horrific in the eyes of the Aesir and Hela that they would not let his soul anywhere else.

So that if, by some chance, someone hooked up a power supply to Largo's skull, where-ever it is now, all they would hear is the keening of one who knows they are truly and completely Damned and Undying, and cursed to inhabit their own corpse until the Ragnarok....

...AND ALL THERE IS LEFT OF HIM IS A METAL SKULL. No limbs, no senses. Trapped forever, sealed in metal. With no one to hate.

GREAT!! I love it! If I remember right, the skull is still in Gryph's office, unless he remembered to place it on Priss's tombstone if he went back to Megatokyo. Either way, we've got some serious potential for some sweet revenge.

"This is all your fault Hutchins!"
"Shut up or I'll take out your batteries again."

Of course, this is assuming that Largo even _has_ a soul...... After all, he hasn't acted like he deserved one, has he?

Matrix Dragon, still laughing at what happened to Mason/Largo in BGC2040.

And now, from the Department of Really Bad Ideas:

--
His name wasn't important. What was important, in his eyes, was that he had executed a most artistic revenge. One which might take centuries before it took effect, but it would happen.

Largo had placed his memory engrams in a computer in a location unknown to any GENOM personnel. The workers who had built the place were killed after the work was complete. A self-sustaining system, from which he could grow a new body, and rebuild. Not that Largo expected to need it.

The vengeance lay in discovering this hidden base, and making one alteration. The engrams had been transferred to a different computer. Making this possible had been the work of several years, due to the age of the computer, but it was worth the effort.

When Largo died, and his memory engrams were activated, Largo would not be in a supercomputer. His engrams would be running on an 8088. The best estimate that anybody could provide was that ten years would pass before "I think, therefore I am" became a complete thought.
--

See, I told you it was a bad idea.
