I'm mildly surprised one of the choices wasn't "Bang On!", but that's just me. Ebony the Black Dragon Hold my hat, would you? There's a good fellow.... "Life is like an anole. Sometimes it's green. Sometimes it's brown. But it's always a small Caribbean lizard." |

>I'm mildly surprised one of the choices wasn't "Bang On!", but that's >just me. Well, you only get six. I'm pretty sure I've told this story here before, but, back in 1999 I went to The Matrix with a friend, fairly late in the film's original theatrical run. We were basically the only people in the auditorium. When we got to the giant wide shot of the power plant interior, I leaned over to her and mumbled, "Banks and banks of humming machinery! I've never seen so many knobs." I'm afraid she rather missed the rest of that scene. :) --G. -><- Benjamin D. Next time. >I'm pretty sure I've told this story here before, but, back in 1999 I >went to The Matrix with a friend, fairly late in the film's >original theatrical run. But, I was wondering, do you know where the sample in "Bang On!" is from? I've done a little digging, but nothing popped up the last time I did a search. It sounds like Terry-Thomas, from Disney's version of "Robin Hood" among many other things, but I can't bank on it. Ebony the Black Dragon "Life is like an anole. Sometimes it's green. LAST EDITED ON May-04-15 AT 05:52 PM (EDT) >Sadly, I appear to be the only fan of the Propellerheads in my coterie >(except for "Spybreak," which no one knows as by the Propellerheads >but rather as "The Music from the Lobby Fight Scene in 'The Matrix.'" >But, I was wondering, do you know where the sample in "Bang On!" is >from? I've done a little digging, but nothing popped up the last time >I did a search. Not a clue! I've googled it a couple of times out of curiosity, and all I ever get is hits on the song. I don't think anyone's ever done a movie version of Charlie and the Great Glass Elevator (the sequel to Charlie and the Chocolate Factory; the scenario implied by the dialogue kind of reminds me of that. The speaker also sounds a bit like William Hartnell, the first Doctor (and it's sort of something he would say as well), but he never had a companion named Charlie that I can recall. :) Conversely, I know there is a techno/breakbeat type song that has a sample from the infamous Buddy Rich bus rampage ("Saxophones?! You gotta fuggin be kidding me!"), but I can't remember what song it is or who performed it. I keep thinking it's one of the other tracks on Decksandrumsandrockandroll, but I never hear it when I go listening for it. --G. -><- Benjamin D. >But, I was wondering, do you know where the sample in "Bang On!" is >from? I've done a little digging, but nothing popped up the last time >I did a search. While I don't KNOW, as I haven't actually heard the purported origin, I HAVE heard that it's supposed to be from a Charlie & Chocolate Factory rendition. There IS some evidence for this, as apparently BBC Radio 4 made an adaptation of the story in the 1980s somewhere. If it's just a straight read, or an actual performance, I have no idea, as I can't find any further evidence beyond that it existed, but it would sort of fit in with the Propellerheads being Brits, too... And, beyond that...well, as I said, I haven't found any particular evidence of it, but in the 1980s, Terry-Thomas was notably ill with Parkinsons and, because of this, also very low on money, which might suggest that he'd be interested in taking jobs that came his way, and radio might be easier for, and on, him than any other form of performing work. As said, I haven't found any definitive proof of this, but... ...! Gott's Leetle Feesh in Trousers! |
