"Star Wars VII"

I'm just putting this here to get it out of the way, because we all know it's coming.

For the record, I have no idea when or even really if I'm going to see The Force Awakens, not because I'm suddenly too cool for Star Wars or anything faux-indie-retro like that, but because... I dunno, I'm just not excited about it. Which is not the full too-cool-for because I'm not making it a point to look down my nose at anyone who is excited about it. If you are, awesome, enjoy, I hope it doesn't suck. It's just that I myself am not. That's why I'm putting this seed thread here and not in UF Source, because who knows when or if it'll ever be a UF source.

On the other hand, that means I don't give a crap about potential spoilers in anyone else's discussion of same, because it's not a situation where I'll be meaning to go see it and haven't been able to yet.

for those who want to remain spoiler-free, be aware the World Premiere has already happened, and the associated media embargo ends tomorrow (Wednesday). Good luck - spoiler-free tweets about the movie were going out as the premiere ended.

I admire your devotion to the Forum cause, but really, you didn't need to go to all the trouble of traveling 48 hours back in time just to report on that. :)

Came out last night here. I went to the midnight screening. It's a good Star Wars movie. It's got some flaws, obviously, but Abrams has clearly been learning from his mistakes and had someone standing behind him with a stick for when his Lens Flare Disorder kicked in :)

What this guy said. Midnight and 10am because I took today off.

Slightly weak on world building but I can understand hesitation to do that after the prequels. Otherwise, absolutely exquisite.

Wednesday here, and since it IS a world release...

Me, I'm seeing it, but not until AFTER the new year. It's been jam-packed with people in the local cinema-plex, I'm told by friends that work there, and since I have free tickets to any two movies, up until the 22nd of Jan, I'll be waiting.

Don't know where various posters live, but world premiere was Tuesday in London, wide release in the UK Thursday, wide release in the US Friday. News media reports say few US locations got permission to do late-Thursday showings rather than waiting until midnight.

I have been awoken in the Force. Enjoyed it very well, as did my brother. Lucked out in getting a late thursday evening showing as I took the day off to get my mom home from Rehab.

Definitely recommend seeing it.

It was wonderful to see that after thirty-something years, they've finally made a fourth Star Wars movie. :)

I quite enjoyed it, and may try to go see it again after the new year, because between now and then is Insanity in my household.

Also, I *really* like Rey. :)

Not sure where to put this, since it's not SW7 spoilers. It's also about the original trilogy, but I think it's too good not to share.

How Ken Burns would tell the story of 'Star Wars'

It just occurred to me that the Star Wars franchise has undergone something remarkably like the life cycle of a successful rock band.

Star Wars: Runaway indie-rock hit.
The Empire Strikes Back: Triumphant major label debut.
RevengeReturn of the Jedi: Difficult but still-mostly-well-regarded third album.

Long hiatus for touring, trouble within the band, side projects, and so forth. Then the label re-releases all the original albums on CD with some extremely controversial remixing tucked away in the remasters.

The Phantom Menace: Weird, creatively fumbling, hilariously overproduced comeback album.
Attack of the Clones: Bloated stadium/mainstream-radio bombast. Critics point out there's no there there, but buying public largely ignores them.
Revenge of the Sith: Double live album. Disc 2 is an attempt at rock opera. Sells like hotcakes but nobody really gets it.

Long hiatus without a tour; rumors that the band had broken up and wouldn't be heard from again. Side projects.

The Force Awakens: That strange mix of "we're completely reinventing our sound" and "we're returning to our roots" that so many '70s bands attempt for their second comeback. New producer, several new band members, but they've got the guy who wrote most of the songs on their biggest album (Empire) back on board and everyone's very excited.

How weird.
