"Recent Musical Genres: MONGOLIAN FOLK METAAAAAL!"

   Yes, really.

"Black Heart", by Nine Treasures
(Nine Treasures, 2014)

Not only is Mongolian folk metal a thing, it's a scene - one categorized by teaming crunching, Sabbath-style guitar work with traditional Mongolian instruments and totally incomprehensible vocals. I am happy to report that death metal songs in Mongolian are as mystifying and awesome as any in English, Finnish, or Setswana.

"War Horse", by Tengger Cavalry
(Sunesu Cavalry, 2012)

The Mongolian folk metal scene is largely centred around the emigré community in China, where bands like Nine Treasures and Suld are based because it's a much bigger market and there's no Wi-Fi in a yurt. Tengger Cavalry, on the other hand, managed to break the United States, and are currently based in New York. Good for them. They brought a morin khuur with them and use it frequently. It's a sort of fiddle that was, back in the Days Of Yore (TM), generally made out of a horse skull.

And you can't get more metal than having your instruments literally made of skulls. =]

"Dream", by Suld
(City Nomad, 2015)

   Now you've done it.

I can't get rid of a mental image of the HTT girls coming across this kind of sound, and their possible reactions. Do they run away screaming? Do they try it out for a while, and their audience runs away screaming? <eeeeeeeeeeevil grin>

Seriously for a moment, though, this sounds pretty good (if you turn the volume way down so your eardrums don't meet in the middle). Not sure if it'll make my favourites list, but at least I didn't run away screaming...

Apologies for the necromancy, but I just stumbled across a band called Aldious and, well, I think they answered your question. =]

Hey, that was actually pretty good, considering I didn't understand a word that was said.

And for some reason, the YT "up next" list included two funny cat videos and one of my favourite filksongs, Leslie Fish singing "Valhalla".

I will be trying these tomorrow at work. I love incomprehensible metal for background work music.

In the meanwhile, I'll come back at you with Samsara Blues Experiment. Sitar metal! (Mildly NSFW cover art.)

.......huh! This genre is entirely new to me, but I rather like it. Thank you for passing it along. :-)

In Xanadu did Kubla Khan
A stately pleasure-dome decree
Where Alph, the sacred river, ran
Through caverns measureless to man
Down to a sunless sea
