ATTENTION! PLEASE OBSERVE THE FOLLOWING RULES AT ALL TIMES:
1. DO NOT ASK WHEN PENDING PROJECTS WILL BE COMPLETED. WE DO NOT KNOW.
2. DO NOT ASK WHY WE DO NOT KNOW. THIS PHENOMENON CANNOT BE EXPLAINED.
3. DO NOT TALK ABOUT "THE LORD OF THE RINGS". GRYPHON DOESN'T LIKE IT.
4. DO NOT MAKE "FIRST POST!" POSTS. THIS IS NOT FREAKING SLASHDOT, OK?

"Apotheosis Now - a Tribute to Rachael"
|
LAST EDITED ON 05-17-03 AT 06:32 PM (EDT) A very satisfying read, a good, solid ending for a story about the eternal war, and worth the wait. It is a tragedy that one of the people who would have most looked forward to this is no longer with us, and yet without her passing this project might still be languishing, unfinished. I think that Rachael would have been honored to become a character in NXE (she even has an angelic name, how fitting) and, if you believe in an afterlife, she probably is. In the perversity of the way the world works, Gryphon found perhaps in the passing of Rachael the muse that was missing to allow him to complete the story that Rachie loved. In that, possibly, Rachael has found one more little bit of immortality beyond that held in the memories of all those whose lives she touched. A beautiful piece of work."Pitter-patter-pitter-patter WHAM! WHAM! WHAM!" - Relic Seeker, Magi-Nation |

>>Indeed. Well said. I can't help but think she must be pleased and >>honored. And if Heinlein is right, then we've just created another >>universe for her to play in. >> > >I wonder... Even as a celestial being would she remember us? Well I was being semi-poetic, not literal. It's a nice thought though. But that opens up a whole 'nother area of speculation. Touching on aspects of alternate universes and reincarnation. Maybe that's one of the choices offered to a soul that wants to be active in the multiverse? Of course, I see the distinct possibility that this subject could go beyond meta-continuity for NXE into actual theological discussion. If that's the case, we'd need to move it somewhere else, I think. If so, I'm not adverse to continuing the discussion in private email. -Logan

>I just want to say I was impresssed I was with the screen time that >Rachael got. I mean, she was pretty much worked into the bones of the >story, and I'm going to assume that Gryp and Co. didn't have _that_ >much time to make it all happen. Well, it should be noted that Rachael wasn't inserted into the story "from scratch"... she (or, more accurately, an angel character that filled a similar role) has existed in the draft for some time. But until about a month ago, that character was little more than a placeholder -- we knew what that that angel needed to -do-, but not really who that angel -was-. Giving the Angel Rachael a personality modeled after Rachie turned out to be a perfect fit... and, we hope, a fitting tribute. I never knew Rachie... I don't pretend that the character we wrote is fully representative of her. I don't think it -could- be. What I hope is that, in the end, we created a character that Rachie would be pleased to have her name (and memory) associated with.

I think that in the end, whether or not the Angel Rachael is representative of Rachie is beside the point. What is important is that EPU created a tribute that will give Rachie a memorial that will extend far beyond the scope of her friends and family and did so in such a way that people who read the story will ask, 'Who was the real Rachael?' Hopefully they will ask this for a long time to come, and so long as there is at least one who remembers you, you are never truly dead. I'm getting all maudlin... "Pitter-patter-pitter-patter WHAM!
