It often slips my mind that the Fire, Challenger (Jan. 28), and Columbia (Feb. 1) were all so close together on the calendar. Particularly Columbia, for some reason, I always want to say that happened later in the year.

(Also, Gizmodo appears to have them backward.)

An interesting article. Are those really actual parts of Capsule 012? The last I heard, everything had been put into pretty much permanent storage.

They are. If you look closely at the photo of the hatch you can see the fire damage.

KSC also has a similar memorial for Challenger and Columbia.
