KAIJUTRIX

Overview

The Kaijutrix is an alien device of unknown origin and construction. When attached to the wrist of a humanoid life form and correctly operated, it grants its wearer the power to transform into any one of ten daikaiju (giant monsters), each with unique capabilities. Mode selection is accomplished with the use of a selector dial that displays the silhouette of the chosen monster on the device's face prior to activation.

The Ten Modes

Form I: Gigan
One of the most powerful forms the Kaijutrix contains, Gigan is a cyborg monster geared for only one thing: total destruction. Armed with a powerful optic laser, devastating bio-titanium hooks for hands, and a chest-mounted buzzsaw, Gigan can make short work of almost any structure or opponent. However, he cannot fly and is not particularly agile. In addition, his savage power can overcome the consciousness - and conscience - of the wielder.

Form II: Bemular
A more benevolent beast than Gigan, Bemular is not as powerful (or as terrifying) a straight-up combatant, but he does possess considerable physical power, great durability, and a respectable energy-beam breath weapon. He can also operate underwater without hindrance and is one of the Kaijutrix's more agile forms. His main weaknesses are his low tolerance for pain and, again, an inability to fly.

Form III: Jet Jaguar
A flight-capable, atomic-powered robot warrior, Jet Jaguar gets high marks for durability and is the best-versed of the Kaijutrix's forms in hand-to-hand combat. He can also alter his size, assuming any height between six and about 200 Standard feet. He lacks ranged weapons, however, and though good at fighting, is not as strong as some of the Kaijutrix's other forms.

Form IV: Barugon
One of the smaller kaiju available, but agile, surprisingly tough, and possessed of a wide variety of "special" weapons. Barugon can fire a powerful "rainbow beam" from the row of spines on his back, project a beam of extreme cold from his mouth, and make physical attacks with his long, immensely strong tongue. One of the Kaijutrix's most popular forms, he is the star of the popular Where's Barugon? series of children's puzzle books.

Form V: Megalon
A huge beetle-like creature, Megalon is a versatile monster. His armored carapace makes him very tough. His metallic forelimbs are powerful bludgeons and can be combined to form a drill capable of tunneling underground with remarkable speed. He can fire exploding shells from his mouthparts and even fly for short distances, though opening his shell to deploy his wings makes him vulnerable to attack from behind. His main drawback is that his armor makes him slow and clumsy.

Form VI: Gyaos
One of the Kaijutrix's several flying forms, Gyaos resembles a giant bat. A fast and agile flier, Gyaos possesses the ability to generate ultrasonic vibrations and channel them into what amounts to a "heat beam" of incredible power and precision. He can also use this sonic power as a form of hyper-advanced echolocation, enabling him to "see" his surroundings even when completely blinded. He has a strong aversion to bright light, and his wings are relatively fragile.

Form VII: Ebirah
The Kaijutrix's only entirely aquatic form. Though Bemular can handle himself pretty well underwater, Ebirah is completely at home there, maneuvering with speed and grace that belie his bulk, never needing to surface for air. His armored shell makes him very tough and his claws are extremely dangerous weapons in close quarters. He is slow and awkward on land, though, and lacks ranged weapons of any kind. He also can't see very well above water, and some foes may regard his prawn-like form as... well, tasty.

Form VIII: Mothra
Just what it says on the tin: a giant moth. Though the slowest flyer of the Kaijutrix's three aerial forms, Mothra can use her wings to generate tremendous winds capable of destroying buildings, capsizing ships, and throwing other giant monsters off-balance. Her great strength can be used to lift opponents or objects high into the air and then drop them, letting gravity do the rest of the work. Mothra can also emit a poisonous yellow dust which can asphyxiate many foes. Her antennae are vulnerable, and damage to them can make her unable to control her flight path (as well as causing considerable pain).

Form IX: M.O.G.U.E.R.A.
Another robotic form, this one optimized for heavy-duty combat. Like Megalon, M.O.G.U.E.R.A. possesses drill attachments, though M.O.G.U.E.R.A.'s are used primarily for combat, not travel. In addition, this form possesses rapid-fire plasma cannons in its eyes, various concealed missile launchers, and heavy beam weapons built into its arm drills - but the pièce de résistance is the Plasma Maser Cannon, a massive beam weapon built into its chest. M.O.G.U.E.R.A. is the second toughest of the Kaijutrix's forms, after Rodan, and is almost as good at mayhem as Gigan, but it is also the slowest and least agile of the available monsters.

Form X: Rodan
The smallest of the Kaijutrix's forms, Rodan is also the fastest and most capable flier, even more maneuverable than Gyaos. He is also incredibly tough, capable of shrugging off attacks that would cripple his larger stablemate. Rodan can fly at supersonic speeds (wreaking havoc with the shockwave he leaves in his wake), outmaneuver fighter jets, lift objects many times his own weight into the air, and shatter duracrete with a blow from his beak. His horns are devastating weapons in air-to-air combat. Apart from his supersonic shockwaves, he lacks a ranged weapon.

Notes

The Kaijutrix is capable of sustaining its owner's transformation for only a few minutes at a time. When its stored energy runs out, it automatically deactivates, returning its wearer to his or her original form with only a few seconds' warning (which can be most inconvenient, not to say potentially fatal). It occasionally malfunctions, turning its wearer into a different daikaiju than the one displayed before activation.

If this device is encountered in the field, do not touch it. Refer the matter immediately to the Office of the Chief Technologist for proper handling.

Nice! Though why am I picturing various different versions of Ultraman with this? Must me be me. *shrugs*

While Bemular is, in fact, a monster from Ultraman (in fact, he's the monster from the very first episode of the original series), you're probably thinking of the Ultratrix, a red wrist-mounted device that permits its owner to transform into one of ten different Ultramen:

Ultraman
Ultraseven
Ultraman Jack (aka "Ultraman Returns")
Ultraman Ace
Ultraman Taro
Ultra-Commander Zoffy
Ultraman Zearth
Ultraman Tiga
Ultraman Nexus
Ultraman Möbius

As you might imagine, the use of the Ultratrix is accompanied by a certain feeling of... well, monotony, as all the Ultraman encoded in its matrix are pretty much alike. Except Ultraman Zearth, who is markedly less competent than the others. :)

Can it "sample" other Daikaiju like it's inspiration can sample other alien life froms? If so, let's keep it OUT of the same building as Gojira Nakajima.

I'm just picturing some 10 year old kid like Ben getting this thing...scary...although Gwen's pithy comments about his monster mistransformations would be particularly entertaining.

Ben: "It's monster time...lets go, Rodan!" (Slaps and transforms to...) "Ebirah? Oh, man..."

Gwen: "Good going, doofus. You MIGHT be useful if someone manages to shoot the monster down in Lake Daniels."

Based on the date of the search entry, this is either a late April’s fool joke or a setup for a story.
Either way Ben, you will have your readership on tenterhooks up to the time that you drop the other shoe.

Such an evil man you are.
