"The Greatest Shot In Television"

While it might not be the ACTUAL greatest, it's certainly in the top three...and in my own PERSONAL opinion it is the No. 1. (obviously)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2WoDQBhJCVQ

And even if it isn't the greatest, still, James Burke!

I don't even need to click the link to be reasonably sure it's the clip that ends with,

"... You get... that."

Connections series 1, greatest of all time.

Well, actually, it ends with "the planets, or Peking". But yes, the clip does include the phrase in question.

The timing didn't have to be that good. That clip has 2 cuts. The first cut is at ~43 sec, the actual ignition is at ~58 sec. If you review it, you'll see the sky is considerably grayer in the second shot.

There's always got to be that one guy, hasn't there?

it's cool, if he'd flubbed the line or otherwise messed up the shot, they could just come back for the next Voyager launch

Also, I was totally talking about the part AFTER the cut, I mean, I knew they cut from behind the one rocket to that point, but that whole second part looked like a single take.

It is. Everything from 43 seconds onward, until the obvious "film the rising rocket" is one take, specifically practiced again and again until Burke had it down, and knew how long it would take....and then it was go-time, DON'T flub it!

Slight bit of "necro", but since it's on the subject, I thought it would be easier.

The entirety of all three series of Connections is available online, at https://archive.org/details/ConnectionsByJamesBurke/

If you haven't seen it, do yourself a favor, this is quality television that just doesn't happen any more. If you have seen it, well, go see it again, since this is quality television that just doesn't happen any more.

In re, well, this as well as Gryphon's quote on the swords post, I found something absolutely delightful on Mr. Burke's wikipage yesterday.

"In a May 2020 interview, Burke said that he was writing a new Connections book, which would be the basis for a new television series titled Connections 21, slated to air in January 2022."

Much joy was felt by me.
