"State of the Stuff"

Hey, so, I normally try to do something for the holiday season, however crazy the rest of the year has been. Between the University's winter break and things slowing down at work, there is generally time and mental bandwidth for a push on something, like last year's Fall of Petrograd OWaW special.

This year, not so much, although it's for neither academic nor work reasons. Thanks to the gruesome shortening of the spring break the University of Maine System Chancellor's office has finally imposed on the flagship campus after years of trying, the winter break now runs for over a month—classes begin on the 22nd of January this time around—and with a combination of holidays and vacation time scheduling, I've got the next two weeks off.

Unfortunately, instead of writing, it appears I'm going to spend a fair bit of that as I have spent all my free time during the past several weeks, completing a ridiculously complicated multi-stage rearrangement of the things inside my house. This is almost exactly like moving, with all the horrors that entails, except that at the end of the process you still live in exactly the same place.

(And also having the most annoying, but probably least life-threatening, neurological effect my condition has yet seen fit to visit upon me. At least I assume it's neurological. Ever try to get a serious medical investigation going in the second-to-last week of the year? It's not really an option. That in itself wouldn't keep me from working, though. It's having my house in various stages of ransackment that's doing that.)

So, it doesn't look like there will be anything too exciting going on here this week. :( Sorry about that.

Oh yes... the joy and delight of relocating furniture is well known to me. Hopefully it won't be too painful a process, in any sense of the word.

Best of luck with both of those things.

   No need to apologize.

We've all been there with various things, and hey, you don't owe us anything. I'm eternally grateful for all the awesome stories you and the rest of Eyrie have written over all these years.

I wish you the quickest and safest furniture rearrangement possible. =) And whatever issue you may have had crop up neurologically or otherwise, I wish you the best.

Well, if you're busy, you're busy. I hope all goes well for you in the closing of this year, and that next year is better for you on all fronts.

It happens. Stay warm and treat yourself to summat nice when you can. :-)

In Xanadu did Kubla Khan
A stately pleasure-dome decree
Where Alph, the sacred river, ran
Through caverns measureless to man
Down to a sunless sea
