"IPO Electronic Memo"
|
LAST EDITED ON Nov-06-07 AT 02:33 PM (EST) From: "Gil Grissom" <grissom@csi.ipo.zc> Return-Path: <grissom@csi.ipo.zc> Delivered-To: gryphon@hq.ipo.zc Subject: Is this correct? To: "Benjamin D. Hutchins, Chief of IP Operations" <gryphon@hq.ipo.zc> Date: Fri Dec 4 2409 00:12:39 -0500 (AST)Benjamin - I just got last week's payroll run for my shift in, and I noticed what I might understatedly call a discrepancy in Sara's pay cycle. As you know, she logged 77 continuous hours of work on her trip to Zardon. According to the payroll run output, her gross pay for that shift comes to cr199,440. I checked the overtime guidelines in the employee handbook, and it does indeed say that an employee's pay rate doubles for each contiguous shift's worth of time worked after the initial shift. However, the only way the above figure can be correct is if that progression is geometric rather than acting on the base pay rate at each iteration. Is that correct? Yours in puzzlement, - Gil Reply-From: "Benjamin D. Hutchins, Chief of IP Operations" <gryphon@hq.ipo.zc> Subject: Re: Is this correct? Date: Fri Dec 4 2409 00:24:44 -0500 (AST)Gil, That's almost certainly a foul-up in the overtime calculation algorithm, but you know what? Screw it. After the performance those 77 hours represent, it's either that or we buy her a boat. Does she like boats? --G.

Hutchins, Chief of IP Operations" <gryphon@hq.ipo.zc> Subject: Re: Is this correct? Date: Fri Dec 4 2409 00:35:39 -0500 (AST)Well, the hell with it, then. In fact, let's bump it to an even 80 hours. Nothing says "good job, you adorable obsessive-compulsive you" like a quarter-million credits. Ship it! And make sure someone gets a photo of her face when she opens her direct deposit stub. It'll be great on the bulletin board near Greggo's office. --G.

But...who -doesn't- like boats??? Anyway, I like. -------- We pray for mercy because we would be fools to pray for justice. The reasonable man adapts himself to the world; the unreasonable one insists on adapting the world to himself. Therefore, all progress depends on the unreasonable man. - George Bernard Shaw |

LAST EDITED ON Nov-06-07 AT 12:00 PM (EST) >I doubt it. 'Cause, at earlier levels it doesn't really matter that >much... > >...and by the point where you're talking that kind of overtime, >they damn well deserve it. > >Ja, -n Well, except that a 36 hour shift isn't a) unlikely, or b) really an inhuman amount of time to spend working. I used to do it maybe once a month. And, at 14/hr, that works out to a difference of 1176; which, at that rate, is about 2 weeks pay. (Also, if my math was right, CSI 2's make cr25/hr. Yay for fiddly details) -- -Pasha "I invented Warp Drive, whatta ya got?" "I'm the Norse God of Mecha." "Well, I guess you win then." |

>(Also, if my math was right, CSI 2's make cr25/hr. Yay for fiddly >details) 30, actually (unless my math was wrong, which is entirely conceivable). That's a calculation based on dividing base pay rate by 52 weeks at 40 hours a week, since CSIs aren't actually paid hourly except for overtime. Sara's base pay rate at the time of that incident was cr62,400 per annum, which is about average for a CSI2. The jump to CSI3 is worth about eight grand a year, which is a big reason why everybody wants it. --G. -><- Benjamin D. >Does she get a full shift's pay for that last five hours? She does if I get tired at the end of the calculation and just multiply the previous iteration by two, like all the previous ones, instead of dividing it up correctly. The correct total for 77 hours should be cr199,440. You're correct, cr245,520 would be for an 80-hour block. --G. -><- Benjamin D.
