"ow"

Final editing and publication of Our Witches at War episode 21, "Sea Trials", which I expected to have done by now, will be delayed slightly by an unforeseen complication, to wit: I got up to get myself a drink and the knee I injured last year, which has been fine for months, abruptly buckled with no warning and for no obvious reason, causing me to perform an unscheduled charging attack on one of my bookcases with my face.

That's not some flimsy prefabricated particle board affair, either, that's one of the ones my father and I built last year. That is a solid half-inch pine board, pegged and glued into position, that I broke in half with my big fat forehead, like some kind of ridiculous stunt in a kung fu movie.

Doesn't look like much yet, but based on how much it hurts, I expect some righteous empurpling by and by. Bent my glasses all to shit, too, but I've mostly managed to fix that. I need a new pair anyway, but I've been putting off going to the eye doctor for obvious reasons.

Anyway, ow. I'm getting quite stiff and sore now. At least it didn't bleed much. Normal service will be resumed this evening, but right now I think I need to ice my head and play some Animal Crossing.

It could be worse. Your skull could have given way instead.

Anyways, if you have someone who can watch out for signs of a concussion, that'd probably be best. Rest is good, but forever rest is bad. Aside from that, I hope you have better luck the rest of the day, and take as much time as you need to recover.

Yeah, there's presumably a timeline not too far from here where I hit it with the side of my head and I'm dead now, but nobody knows yet.

I live alone, but my mother seems to have decided that she's going to text me every 15 or 20 minutes for the next however long, so, there's that.

Anyway, I'm pretty sure I didn't black out, I was too busy swearing, and apart from the fact that my face feels like I rammed it into a solid wooden bookcase a couple hours ago, I feel more or less normal. Fingers crossed, I guess.

Oof, definitely ouch. The not-blacking-out is at least promising though. Here's hoping for an easy recovery and no ill effects.

Update: Amazingly, my face has mostly stopped hurting unless I touch it. I am, however, getting eyestrain from the screwed-up angle the lenses of my glasses are now at.

I needed new glasses anyway, but man, did I not want to do an optometrist office visit in the plague times. :/

Do you have your current prescription written down anywhere? If so, and if you don't feel like your eyes have changed since your last visit, and if your lenses aren't inch-thick klaster like mine, then you can order them online.

I do not. Moreover, I called my optometrist's office today to get it, and they wouldn't tell me what it is! But they're supposedly mailing me a copy. I suppose another couple days won't make much difference when the things will probably take at least a week to make anyway.

Yeah buddy, I called that.

It doesn't really hurt unless I touch it, but it sure is annoying.

Yeah, that's...less than optimal. And, now you've worried me.

See, my mom did that a few months ago, almost to the exact spot...and she ended up with an internal bleed.

Now, she's significantly older than you, as would be expected being my mom, and so likely has a higher likelihood of having such a bleed, but, you know...

(and I just realized that the original post was a week ago...yeah. I blame lack of comp and phone not displaying forum posts properly...still,all the same.)

I was pretty paranoid about that for the first day or two, but it's been a week now, so hopefully I'm in the clear. And also that your mom is getting better.

Oh, she's luckily fine now, though she was in and out of the hospital a couple of times before they got it, and her, all back on an even keel again. Thank you for your concern.

But, well, it got me thinking. Still, since it's been a week and you're feeling OK, I think we can go with "all is well" which is a relief.
