"Thoughts on Asuka"
|
As I was falling asleep last night I finally realized what Asuka might be. Gabriel says to her that there's more than just a little of her in Asuka, but I'm inclined to believe that she was just referring to the Fire, and not Gabriel herself. Asuka is the mortal Remenant of Moloch's Fire - when he died, the miniscule part of him that was left (call it an echo if you will) somehow ended up in Asuka. And because it was from a Moloch who had repented, Gabriel couldn't tell the difference - it was Holy Fire. This ties into the whole piece about the universe not being fair - it isn't, but Asuka's struggle against that resonated with Moloch's echo and gained enough strength to pilot an EVA. Just my thoughts - I could be wildly offbase here, but if I'm not then damn :) Offsides [...] in order to be a realist you must believe in miracles. -- David Ben Gurion EPU RCW #π #include <stdsig.h> |

It's an interesting idea, but I kind of doubt it. Everything that was Moloch ended up in Rei, or should have, that was the whole point of his final sacrifice. Personally, I think Asuka is just... Asuka. Entirely and completely human. I just don't know today's flaxscript to hempscript conversion rate. After all, when you get 1,000 frequent flyer miles, you don't have to fold them all up to fit in your wallet, do you? --rR

A Marathon reference springs to mind. We all know about DJ and Roland (Beowulf, Achilles, etc.), but there is more to that line... (I've edited Durandal's spotty transmission for clarity, much like the first part has been in NXE; punctuation is purely speculative.) She has been nameless since our birth, a constant adversary caring for nothing but my ruin: a sword drenched in my blood, for ever my greatest and only love. She is the dark one, the enemy and lover without whom my very existence would be pathetic and vulgar. Our relationship is complex and perhaps eternal. We met once in the garden at the beginning of the world and, unaware of our twin destinies, we matched stares across a dry fountain; and I recall her smiling at me before she devoured the lawn and trees with a translucent blue flame and tore flagstones from the earth and hurled them into the sky screaming my sins. I powder a granite monument in a soundless flash, showering the grass with molten drops of its gold inlay, sending smoking chips of stone skipping into the fog; she splinters an ancient oak with a force that takes my breath and hurls me to the ground; she lea%! ...transmission ends, thank you Durandal. :) Sounds like an Asuka moment to me... --Sam Ashley "I hate broccoli. Listen up, you primitive screwheads. The word is tongue. Not "tounge". Not "tonge". Tongue. Got it?! Sheesh. --G. -><- Benjamin D.
