"Wayne Family Adventures"

What are the heroes of Gotham City like when things aren't completely crazy? CRC Payne has a few ideas, and I highly recommend reading them.

Big fan. I could easily see this happening on Kane's World.

If you like that, you'll probably also appreciate the “Sorrowful and Immaculate Hearts” series by Unpretty. (Tone varies extremely; I recommend starting with “Matches,” “Christmas in Kansas,” and “Nominal.”)

The only official canon worth accepting. It even reminds the reader Steph was an awesome Robin!

Thanks for finding and mentioning it, Pete. Love the 'between the panels' nature of the story. Reminds me of Chris Dee's 'Cat Tales', back when it was active.

Exactly when would this ever happen? The "rogues gallery" of Gotham is, with about two exceptions(Penguin and Catwoman) utterly stark raving mad, and whenever caught placed in a facility with revolving doors.

I mean, I get the idea? But I have to say that, considering the level of outright slaughter that happens in Gotham? There is no such thing as "not completely crazy".

I mean, Superman's probably visited Gotham at least once...

I'm sure it happens pretty frequently. It's just that we don't normally see the downtime, because it's not exciting. Same way we never see James Bond having a dull day in his office at SIS HQ (which happen all the time in his line of work, and indeed Fleming referenced it several times in the original books), or the days when a tall, dark dame with a problem doesn't walk into Philip Marlowe's office, or Commander Shepard doing her laundry.

It's a shame we don't get that kind of thing more often in official media. In the color 1960s Dragnet TV series revival, they tried to do an episode that was just about Friday and Gannon's day off. It was--quite unintentionally, I feel sure--the funniest episode of the series. I don't think Jack Webb really understood the concept of a day off, and for sure Joe Friday didn't. :)

Like Gryphon said, it does happen, just not usually on panel. However, in Detective Comics #685, there were a few panels, including this gem:

"Sorry about lunch, Tim. I'm not much of a hand in the kitchen. With Alfred gone, I'm pretty much helpless."

"It's okay, Bruce. How can you screw up a tuna fish sandwich?"

"Oh. That's how."
