JMS burned a LOT of fan capital with me after his Superman & Wonder Woman runs. I have very low expectations.

This might be a place to expect more. I've noticed that some creators are better with their own works than with working on existing properties (my example is Bill Willingham - Fables was great, his run on Robin was terrible), so bringing JMS back to his own creation could lead to excellence.

To be fair, if he's lost the creative spark needed for B5 in the intervening years, it could lead to serious injury.

He also had a tendency to leave indy stuff unfinished, IIRC.

(On a semi-related note, Willingham went back to Fables recently. I haven't heard great buzz about it.)

This typically is due to the publisher terminating projects due to lower than expected sales. Not that the work is bad or that it isn't profitable, just that it isn't profitable enough.

Trailer dropped today, digital/blu-ray release on 8/15. I guess it's time to get the B5 box set so I can finally see the whole thing before I watch the new stuff...

Well, I'm kind of surprised that nobody's said anything about the movie yet. Got the Blu-Ray/download combo the first day it was available.

So, the question on many people's minds is this: With a significant portion of the cast having gone Beyond the Rim, is it worth picking up this movie?

I can't claim to be an unbiased about JMS's work, since I like the majority of his stuff. That said, I do think that the movie is worth watching. It's an entertaining 79 minutes of returning to old friends, interspersed with glimpses of might-have-been and never were scenarios.

Yes, folks, this is a multiverse/time-jumping story. And before you say that the trope has been played out (mostly due to studios who Shall Not Be Named), it's done quite well.

Not everyone's in this film. Vir, Zack, and a few others are notably absent from the story, and not because their actors have passed. The voices for Franklin, Garibaldi, Sinclair, and Delenn are very close, but they don't try to imitate the character. Straczynski chose which characters could actually contribute to the story, rather than making it a trip down memory lane.

Is there a nostalgia factor? Absolutely. But even if you're not a B5 fan, or if you haven't caught all 5 seasons, you'll get into the groove of it pretty quickly.

That said, "The Road Home" really does (for me, at least) feel like coming home to some old friends. Granted, the animation does take a little getting used to, but given the ages of the cast we still have, it's a pretty logical way to get more B5 stories.

It's a pretty accessible story and, if you go in with an open mind, I think you'll like it.

Oh, and Ivanova is still a badass.
