I'm loving the huge Justice League Avalon cover. Mainly because it's one of my favorite things to pick out all the people you know in it. So far though, there's only a few I can't identify. - The girl just to the right of Liza (Looks familiar, but I can't place her) - The guy just above the Utonium sisters. (Again, familiar. May be how far back he is) - The cat next to Mary Marvel(I don't think it's Catwoman, as she's on Kane's World, last I knew) Beyond that, DAMN, that's a HUGE set of heroes. And is that Warhawk in the back right holding the other flag? Or did UF Hawkman use a hybridized costume similar to Diana's? |

All hail Dave! There so much awesome I'd be hard pressed to pick anything above another, but a couple things stick out. The giant, multi-page roll call of heroes is fantastic. And Wakaba's parody Green Lantern outfit is especially slick, though the green lipstick is... decorative :D >>And is that Warhawk in the back right holding the other flag? I think that's a Mr. Warren Carter Worthington III, better known in other universes as Archangel. ------ Jon Helscher RY: Blackbeard has the weapon traditionally considered by children to be the ultimate destructive instrument, the bazooka AB: Only to be trumped by the bazooka that fires dinosaurs. Just for giggles, I'm going to see how many I can ID. Group way in back, in the center. Juggernaut, Thing, Iron Man, Beast, PC Hammer, Jay Garrick, someone in a Moldiver suit, and Bruce Banner. Back row. I'm guessing Utena, Kurt, unknown (I can't make out the emblem) Etrigan, Robin, Colossus, Greg from CSI, Geoff, Logan, the Power Puff Teens, someone I can't recognize with a white streak in her hair, unknown guy with goggles, Archangel, Terra, Beast Boy, Jen Walters (or a female skrull), Janice?, and Daredevil. Row 2. Alan Scoot, Starfire, Captain Marvel, Mary Marvel, Catwoman?, Cyborg, unclear, Mayl?, Hawkgirl, Corwin, Yomiko Readman, Raven. Front row. Wakaba, Arsenal/Speedy, Stargirl, Flash, Wolfsbane, Mace Windu, Diana, Batgirl, Supergirl. Mario |

>Group way in back, in the center. Juggernaut, Thing, Iron Man, Beast, >PC Hammer, Jay Garrick, someone in a Moldiver suit, and Bruce Banner. Nice work, all accounted for. (Presumably that's Hiroshi; the UF version of Mirai has little interest in such matters.) >Back row. I'm guessing Utena, Kurt, unknown (I can't make out the >emblem) Etrigan, Robin, Colossus, Greg from CSI, Geoff, Logan, the >Power Puff Teens, someone I can't recognize with a white streak in her >hair, unknown guy with goggles, Archangel, Terra, Beast Boy, Jen >Walters (or a female skrull), Janice?, and Daredevil. Er, that's the Chief, actually. Close - it's Gil Grissom (he's much less stolid without the beard). Atin-Vae Springsteen Dave "Vindicator" Menard John Hyatt of Mars >Row 2. Alan Scott, Starfire, Captain Marvel, Mary Marvel, Catwoman?, >Cyborg, unclear, Mayl?, Hawkgirl, Corwin, Yomiko Readman, Raven. Anne "Juniper" Cross (note that she's wearing a black Ohtori Academy boy's uniform jacket) Liza Shustal >Front row. Wakaba, Arsenal/Speedy, Stargirl, Flash, Wolfsbane, Mace >Windu, Diana, Batgirl, Supergirl. All correct. (Speedy's here, as Dave explained to me when I was all confused at him in the studio channel last night, because he assumed that the first couple season of the Teen Titans cartoon happened off-screen in the UF universe. I could've chided him for not using the Bacon Comics version of Arsenal - who doesn't want more blondes? - but I suppose that would've just confused matters, since in the UF universe she's fictional. :) --G. -><- Benjamin D. Trivia: - That tie Corwin's wearing? Actually Utena's. Not entirely sure Corwin owns any ties of his own. :) - Warren may resemble Space Ghost slightly in his hawkcop mask; this is not entirely accidental, since Dave had another classic Alex Toth design, Birdman, in mind at the time. - That is, indeed, Catwoman; she's not based in New Avalon normally, but it's not like it's difficult to get there from New Gotham. Presumably she's visiting Cassie. - Similarly, Hiroshi "Captain Tomodachi" Morisato is usually based on, well, Tomodachi; but he visits New Avalon frequently and has been known to team up with the Utonium sisters pretty routinely. - First "on-screen" appearance of Tara Markova, alias Terra, who spent a while as a Titan in unchronicled adventures before moving to the volcanic planet Magmalor (still listed on some older charts as Mustafar) to master her geokinetic powers under the tutelage of Warmaster Moltar, leader of the Lava Men. - Dave tells me that Bubbles is, in fact, checking Hank McCoy out. - Wally is smirking because he just arrived about a tenth of a second before the picture was taken. Courtney is not yet aware that he's even there. Things I'm particularly fond of in this pic: - Marty, as previously mentioned, towering over even Juggy and the Hulk. - Jay Garrick's positioning between those two makes him look even skinnier than he actually is. - Buttercup's pose. - Liza's costume. - The fact that Logan is unmistakable despite the fact that he's tiny and way in the back. - The nice job Dave did of revising Cyborg's TV design so that his proportions fit into the rest of the pic. Also, not in the gatefold so much as in general, I like the way Wakaba's outfit is different in each one. Costume? Not so much. :) (And, you know, classic "All-New Justice League" cover comp except without having to look at Guy Gardner's mug. How can you lose?) --G. -><- Benjamin D. Man, what wouldn't I have given to be a fly on the wall at that session. I notice Corwin wasn't the only one deciding to dress his best (the beard, now that I see it, makes him look even craggier than I had imagined him previously); Utena is wearing her IPSF dress uniform {u]and her Klingon baldric (the one Klaang gave her). And Liza looks hot, hot, HOT! Is it just me, or do both Diana and Cassie look almost unnervingly intense in this picture? -Joe- |

>Utena is wearing >her IPSF dress uniform and her Klingon baldric (the one Klaang >gave her).Actually, that's a duty uniform; the dress uniforms don't have shoulder yokes. In fact, looking at it, it's a duty uniform with the colors inverted. Normally they're black with blue-grey shoulder yokes. Perhaps the reversed-color duty uniform is a Space Force Reserve thing. (IPSF dress uniforms are Star Trek II-type with different colors; duty uniforms are last-season DS9.) That is indeed a House Klavaar baldric, though. >And Liza looks hot, hot, HOT! With this there can be no quibbling. >Is it just me, or do both Diana and Cassie look almost unnervingly >intense in this picture? I dunno about Diana, but looking almost unnervingly intense is kind of Cassie's métier. :) --G. -><- Benjamin D. LAST EDITED ON Dec-21-11 AT 02:39 PM (EST) Without having read anything but the first post:1. Stargirl! 2. Hot damn, Corwin looks hot. Not "hawt" but... He could totally take Vic Sage and Fox Mulder in a dual of paranormal guys wearing suits. 3. I know this is supposed to invoke Ed Benes, but let me just say, this is like eleventy-gapillion times better because the characters actually have facial expression. 4. Hmm. You went with that look for Batgirl. Any reason? 5. Is Roy hitting on Stargirl? 6. Aside from Jay Garrick, who are the two guys between the PPG's and Hulk? 7. Shayera! |

I'll make this a more-or-less group reply- thanks all for all your kind words- there's a new and better version of these on the way, so don't knock yourselves out making wallpapers just yet, m'kay? Between Gryph, Ard and the rest of the Crew, there's not many questions left to answer, but I'll tackle Static-Pulse's here, since it's the last in the thread to date: 1. Yep. She doth rock unto the supreme degree. 2. Well, yeah. That "Godhead" thing is kinda the deciding factor. ;) 3. Thanks very much. Don't pick on Ed Benes too much. He had to redraw that cover at least three times to compensate for post IC/ One Year Later changes- it's no wonder he recycled a few facial expressions. 4. (UF-verse canon*) Cassie Cain dropped the "faceless mute" look once she came out of her shell. And the new look made Tim actually have an expression, so she kept it. She's sort of fond of the ol' Timster, y'know.:) 5. Roy Harper hits on any girl who sits still long enough. His saving grace is that he's charming about it and takes "no" for an answer. 6. As mentioned above, that would be my UF-self and Captain Tomodachi. (See issues of Alpha Flight and Eps of Moldiver for sources) * i.e., it's canon unless we choose to contradict it later. ;)
--------------------------------------------- <Wedge>: Don't merge the layers. It would be bad. <Dave>: Define "bad". <Wedge>: Imagine all the work you've done so far ceasing to exist and every pixel in your image exploding simultaneously at the speed of light. <R-Type>: Total graphic reversal! <Dave>: Okay, important safety tip, there. Thanks Wedge. ----EPU Art Crew, Photoshopping tips |
