"Strike Witches Movie!!!"
|
So my copy of Strike Witches: The Movie arrived and I got to watch it last night. My impressions: Land Neuroi are easily as creepy as I thought they'd be. It's surprisingly pleasing to see Tigers and Shermans fighting together. Shame all they manage to do is get their butts kicked. Hattori's such a fangirl. And such a sergeant. And while it shows Mio had a hand in training her, I bet she never made Mio laugh. Schnaufer is hottie +10. I think it's the glasses. Yoshika never changes. But if she gets to reboot her magic just because she needs it, why doesn't that work for Mio? But hey, Gryphon fixed that. :-) They actually mellowed out on the Panty Shots per Minute ratio. I consider this an improvement. Underground Neuroi are bad news on a whole new level. If the Neuroi are go literally underground, Europe will never really be secure. Oh Wow, Sanya's awake during daylight! Poor Nippa, that looked like it hurt... That underground mothership was *HUGE*! But it learned that raw numbers are no match for legendary skill! |

So, I haunted a now-defunct torrent site for months hoping someone would do a fansub of Strike Witches: Operation Victory Arrow, and then when one finally appeared I downloaded it... and forgot all about it before I had time to watch it. I just stumbled over it in my SW files dir and was all oh no way! I've only had a chance to watch a few minutes of the first episode so far, but if you like Heidemarie Schnaufer (and really, who doesn't?), she looks to be fairly prominently featured. Also, I will give the series 10 points right out of the box for the bit in the opening credits where Mio is wrecking shit in a Zero instead of loafing around with an unarmed recon biplane like they stuck her with in the movie. Also, --G. (episode 1 is looking all Karlsland, all the time) -><- Benjamin D. >Schnaufer is hottie +10. I think it's the glasses. She's also one of those characters, like some fan interpretations of Inazuma, who has Timid Mouse Mode and Get Your Murder On Mode, which is always good times. (put on your war paint) >Poor Nippa, that looked like it hurt... That scene makes me kind of sad. Poor Nipa, 30 seconds of screen time and they spend most of it blaming her for an accident that was manifestly not her fault. --G. -><- Benjamin D. >She's also one of those characters, like some fan interpretations of Humm. EPU is about my only contact with fandom these days. >Inazuma, who has Timid Mouse Mode and Get Your Murder On Mode, which >is always good times. (put on your war paint) > And also "Are you sure there's no such thing as a Vampire" mode. :-) >That scene makes me kind of sad. Poor Nipa, 30 seconds of screen time >and they spend most of it blaming her for an accident that was >manifestly not her fault. Poor girl obviously has luck -20. :-( Maybe she needs to take a spirit quest and find out who put a curse on her. That was the Suomus Misfits, right? So getting her striker fried was much more of an issue than "I'll just add a new 109 to the requisitions list." Also, Suomus. Another impression I got from the movie is that the magical bonus to damage the Witch's guns get persists (at least for a time) even removed from the witch and her striker. Yoshika could barely pick up Hattori's Type 20, but still got a kill with it. >--G. Willard |

LAST EDITED ON Oct-18-16 AT 11:20 PM (EDT) >That was the Suomus Misfits, right? In the movie? No, that was the 502nd JFW. Nipa isn't in the Suomus Misfits, their storyline (from the original novels) is set much earlier in the war. (Ursula was in the Suomus Misfits, she was 11 at the time.) Come to think of it, I'm not sure any of the Suomus Misfit Squadron's witches were actually Suomi. Their operations officer was, but she wasn't a witch. >Another impression I got from the movie is that the magical bonus to >damage the Witch's guns get persists (at least for a time) even >removed from the witch and her striker. Yoshika could barely pick up >Hattori's Type 20, but still got a kill with it. The (very sparse) background info is unclear on whether the witch is actually doing anything to the weapon when shooting it, or if it's just that the ammo is enchanted. (In OWaW I'm proceeding under the assumption that it's kind of bothâthe ammunition is treated to be more receptive to wielder magic.) --G. -><- Benjamin D.
