"Fold Inhibitors"

   Apropos of nothing in particular:

In an earlier thread, it was mentioned that the Zeta Cygni Dyson Sphere has a piece (or pieces) of equipment that inhibit spacefolds within a certain area. Two questions:

1) Do they inhibit outgoing as well as incoming folds?
2) Are they a common piece of technology, or exclusive to the WDF?

(I know, I fixate on the strangest damned things sometimes...)

That can be configured by Sphere Control.

>2) Are they a common piece of technology, or exclusive to the WDF?

They're unique, integral to the Sphere itself.

Are they in any way similar to those in the GENOM Interdictor.

No. Interdictors work by generating gravitic anomalies which prevent the function of hyperspace motivators and the formation of warp envelopes. They have no effect on fold-driven ships.

   ahh, yes, but..

throw us some crumbs please?

whilst I REALLY enjoy the actual writing in Eyrie, when there's not something new to tickle my fancy, I really enjoy the tech readouts, even if their couched in generics.

There are no crumbs to throw. It's a device, incorporated within the structure of the Sphere, that prevents fold-in. How the hell do I know how it works? I'm only an unemployed twenty-first-century Linux administrator.

If it makes y'all feel any better, his 25th-century avatar probably doesn't know either, otherwise the system wouldn't be unique to the Sphere. It's some mysterious system that prevents ships folding into or out of the Sphere (probably to prevent distortions of the Sphere) which nobody's managed to even copy, much less explain.
