Re: Criminal Investigation Division reorganization
As part of the inclusion of the IPO Central Forensic Laboratory into CID, a new rank structure is being implemented for the lab's field-grade criminalist personnel to bring them into parity with CID's existing investigative officer grades. The new ranks and their equivalencies under the old system are listed below.
Previous rank New rank
Crime Scene Investigator I Criminalist Constable
Crime Scene Investigator II Criminalist Sergeant
Crime Scene Investigator III Criminalist Inspector
Crime Scene Investigator Supervisor Criminalist Superintendent
Laboratory Director Criminalist Chief Inspector
Criminalist grades are on part with their Detective equivalents in both the direct investigation branch of CID and the New Avalon Police Department's detective bureau, as well as the appropriate uniformed ranks, with one exception: During the processing of crime scenes, personnel holding criminalist certification are considered senior to all holders of equivalent non-criminalist rank. (CHIEF'S NOTE: This means if you're a Detective Chief Inspector and a Criminalist Constable tells you to stay behind the yellow tape, you will by God stay behind the yellow tape.)
Also, please note that the Criminalist Chief Inspector reports directly to the Deputy Chief for Criminal Investigations.
As mentioned in the initial reorganization announcement, this change gives the crime lab's field personnel full police powers, just like their peers in Direct Investigation. Most of the training necessary is covered by the prerequisites for the now-obsolete CSI field rating anyway; what little fill-in training is needed will be provided during the next six weeks.
Non-field-rated laboratory personnel retain their existing titles and pay grades.
If you have questions about the new arrangement, please feel free to address them to me or Deputy Chief Daniels.
