"Code Name: Ultra"
|
Just finished reading the latest offering: I never really got into the original Ultraman series, but the Eyrie touch makes it very enjoyable. The "What are noodles?" line made me giggle. One question about the conversation between Natsumi and Miyuki regarding releasing a Weapon of Mass Destruction: does "WMR" stand for "Weapon of Mass Reduction"? It's nice to see how the Morisato branch of the Ragnarok Wave are coming into their own. I'm looking forward to seeing how the Ultramen figure into the revised end-game of "Day of Infamy". Thanks again for sharing, -T.Z. ================================================== "I believe that when life gives you lemons, you make lemonade. Just my $0.02: Reading this made me feel like I was a 6 year old back in the far off time of 1973 watching Ultraman on WTCG-17. Wow. Good times, good times. (all except for when I kicked my dad in the worst possible place while I was trying to fight like Ultraman....) Good to see Hayata again. I've seen some of the Moebius on YouTube a while back, and those weren't translated. But it looked darn good, especially the episode when Ultraman and Moebius team up. Now I've gotta download some new torrents. I just wish I could find the original series.... Anyway, perhaps the powers that be need you to write an Ultra series for the US. I'd love to see it on American TV again. Rubber monster movies/TV shows. Gotta love 'em. Michael

>I just wish I could find the original series.... It's out on DVD. The original release, in two three-disc sets, is out of print (the licensor struck a deal with the party that ended up losing the big Tsuburaya/Chaiyo license fight), but can still be found - here's a place I've had good service from in the past offering both sets for a pretty deep discount. Alternately, the same people have re-licensed it properly, and will be re-releasing the whole thing as one larger box set in October. My hope is that, now that the Chaiyo nonsense is over with, other series will follow. A proper subtitled release of e.g. Ultraseven would please me quite a bit. --G. -><- Benjamin D. > Hayata nodded. "Gryphon of the International Police. I met him >once, though I doubt he remembers me." You, sir, would be surprised. (Gryphon really does know *everybody*, doesn't he.) > The woman laughed again, then shook her head and made a chiding >gesture. "Ah ah ah, Ultraman Dash. Agent A was an underling. Last >week's news. You're up against Lord Alberto's right-hand woman now. >You may call me Falcon Gold... Clarissa has really moved up. Or down, depending on how you look at it. > As the love and gratitude of a people washed over his battered >body, the ebbing light returned to Ultraman Moebius's eyes. If you believe in Ultramen, clap your hands! > "Hush," he said. "You did your best today. I told you the >system wasn't ready. Now it's time for you to rest." That's... sort of hot. In an evil sort of way. -- With great power come great perks. |

LAST EDITED ON Sep-06-08 AT 11:43 PM (EDT) I just noticed this:The woman laughed again, then shook her head and made a chiding gesture. "Ah ah ah, Ultraman Dash. Agent A was an underling. Last week's news. You're up against Lord Alberto's right-hand woman now. You may call me Falcon Gold... for the few minutes you have left to live."<Ugh... you know this woman?> Moebius asked as he got back to his feet. <My cousin went to school with her. It's a long story,> Dash replied. So by this point, the Good Guys know Agent A's secret identity. Which means we should have a really nifty "...you!?" scene coming up in another story somewhere. :)I'm also really glad to see that Mirai's avoided becoming a stereotypical ditz. I always thought that her original in Moldiver didn't get enough credit--after all, she was "with it" enough to hold together a household with two mad scientists in it, and brilliant enough in her own right to hack the Mol unit to redesign the costume. --- Rob Madson, a.k.a. >So by this point, the Good Guys know Agent A's secret identity. Indeed. In fact, that scene happens mere days after her identity became known to the International Police in general (at the end of CSI 109) - which means Alberto's contingency plan to move her up within the organization has been in the works for a while now, if he could set her up as an elite agent so quickly after she was forced to abandon New Avalon. >I'm also really glad to see that Mirai's avoided becoming a >stereotypical ditz. Oh, she has her moments, but mostly what Hiroshi took for cluelessness was just a lack of... engagement. She hadn't found her niche. :) --G. -><- Benjamin D.
