>(Uhm. Rape? Was Kei that mad with him, or is there something >else?) Well, bear in mind, this is (though nobody in law enforcement knew it at the time) actually a list of crimes committed by two people (over the course of 92 years, no less). Ironically, a number of these crimes probably are things the real Gryphon did during his exile (resisting arrest, for instance, and impersonating a police officer, the latter of which probably relates to his time as a cop on Earth). The rape, uh, most likely not so much. --G. -><- Benjamin D. Hmm... between this and the writup of Invincible, methinks you're working on a re-do of Secrets to go with the general change of things in the UFverse... Of course, I could be totally off base, but I certainly look forward to whatever this leads up to. >Hmm... between this and the writup of Invincible, methinks >you're working on a re-do of Secrets to go with the general >change of things in the UFverse... Well, sort of. I've long thought that Secrets could use a do-over, not because of changes in the UF universe so much as because it's rubbish. But I held off for a long time, for three main reasons: 1) I've long had a bias against wholesale revisions. This is mainly a holdover from the early days, when our primary release mechanism was Usenet, and so revision control was problematic at best. Nowadays, with things going out through a website over which I have direct control, this is a lot less of an issue. 2) I have many, many other things to do, and retracing old steps isn't a particularly efficient use of time. 3) Perhaps as a corollary to 2), I always promised myself I wouldn't undertake such a thing unless I had a Better Idea, and for a long time, well, I didn't have one. That last part? Changed a while back... --G. -><- Benjamin D. I've often thought over the last few years that it'd be nice if the story of the end of Gryphon's exile didn't involve quite so much brainless criminal irresponsibility on his part or quite so much, uh, consequence-free mass murder on Kei's. I mean, what? >Ahh.. so it's not so much that you're rewriting Secrets, as >you've relegated it to apocryphal status and will be showing is the >real story at sometime in the future. looking forward to it :) Basically, yeah. When it's all said and done, there likely will still be an Exile story with that title, but it won't cover the same span of time. As for the one that does, it's now in progress under the working title Manhunt. --G. -><- Benjamin D. I mean, what? I always saw this as the early days' "the overall tone of UF hasn't quite sorted itself out yet" phase - It seems like back then you guys were often back and forth between "space opera serious" "cartoon reality," "parody" and a few other modes.
