The finger is on the trigger, about to unleash a force with terrible powers - beyond the comprehension of Man. This force we shall know as: the Mysterons. This man will be our hero, for fate will make him indestructible. His name:
Captain Scarlet.
Today's trivia tidbit: in early drafts of the first material to feature the International Police Organization, the paramilitary arm of the agency - what became the Tactical Division - was going to be SPECTRUM, with the Rainbow Agents - Captain Scarlet, Captain Blue, et al. - functioning at a clearance/influence level just below that of the Experts of Justice. Vestiges of this can today be found in things like the unofficial color-code nicknames for particular types of Lensmen (TacDiv "Blue Lensmen" most prominent among them), and the fact that the standard SPECTRUM radio acknowledgement, "S.I.G." ("Spectrum Is Green"), occasionally appears in dialogue.
Over in the Warrior's Legacy universe, SPECTRUM does in fact exist, and is mentioned a couple of times in passing when Gryphon and Zoner discuss international intelligence/enforcement agencies. The WL version of Gryphon holds a SPECTRUM reserve commission; if ever activated, he would be Captain Violet. (In fact, several of the organizations from the Gerry Anderson universe exist in WL, including International Rescue, who are also mentioned in passing at least once. I have no excuse for this blatant breach of the WL universe's "things from fighting games" motif, other than my colossal fondness for Supermarionation shows.)
