"NXE as a hardcover book"

   Well, how to begin... perhaps I take the longer route, especially since I can be a very talkative person ::D

Obviously, I've read NXE. And I'm from Germany. So I'm not necessarily a prime target for english fanfiction. I've read it. I was hinted by a friend of mine to take a look 'cause I was deep into NGE some years ago, leading the discussion of it on de.alt.anime after it aired (!) in German TV. Yeah.

NGE was definatelly the first anime I watched as anime itself. Sure, we had things like Queen Millenia or Saber Rider running at kids time but no-one said it was Japanese animation. *cough*. Then one year I've met a new school friend from a friend of mine who hat switched school. We've met at new year every year doin' a mini lan party. He had some japanische pop music videos with him. One came to another, we were talking about anime and such things. Then he explained NGE 'cause he had it on video cassette... the next weekend he came around and we watched the whole serie in two days. Yuck. I'll never ever do such a thing again, NGE being more than slightly mind-fucking.

Okay, back to what I wanted... I've read NXE. Mostly on Saturdays with STOPPING the reading on sundays. You get the catch, I guess.

Now I've got some free time at the evening to spend and I've finally decided:
I will get NXE in four nice and exclusive hardcover books for my shelf. Only thing to stop me from getting them will be a direct meteor hit or an earthquake or something like that.

I've got a friend with a real good laser printer, I know a little artisan shop right next city doing book binding. Yeah... and it will cost me only about thirty euro for each one ^^;

Okay. I've just have had to say that! Now to the Questions(TM)

a) I'm using MikTeX distribution to to compose the book. Do you like to have the TeX source code once I'm done? That could take some weeks... I've done three and a half exodus' until now, taking about two hours for each to compose.

b) I want to have the paper have a format of 180mm to 120mm, about 7 to 4.7 inch. I compile the TeX code into PostScript and PDF. It will end up in an PDF with each page having that format. In addition I'll make two additional PDFs with the sides sorted and two put onto one page so I can print one half out, turn the paper, print the other half, cut the paper in the middle, put on stack on top of the other and have all pages like I have to have for the book. Do you like to have the PDF files?

c) I'll try to keep as close to your composition and makeup as possible but I'll have to make some changes. The music hints are a bit more exposed with a little line above and below and some little notes on the edge of the line. I turn the emphasing "I will not do -this-" into TeX \emph command, making the text look italic and such thing. Do you would like to take a look at the end product before I go to printing?

d) While I obviously preserve your text I like to make some little changes at the "trailer" at the end of each chapter (don't remember the markup in exodus 2 and 3 anymore, I think it will get more complicated there). You have some time related sentences there like "Join us in seven days for:" or something. I do not thing that this will fit in a printed version very well. I've made up a sentence like "Just about four hundredth of an inch away:" there. Do you have good ideas what I could write there in every exodus chapter? Something more like your style?

e) Do you have objections putting a music hint in apothesis now about playing the old soviet anthem when almost everyone is singing it? (I'll put it there anyway ;)

f) Any chance to get an autograph from you into the finished NXE master piece, printed version? ^^;

Well, enough from me. I like to hear some answers from you folks. Late enough around here and I've to finish exodus 1-4 today or I won't sleep well ;)

Sincerely,
Maik

   Finally, I've got some days off and was able to finish Exodus 1. You may take a look at the beta stage PDF file. I'm not sure yet what page format to use in the final version... so don't expect to much from line breaks, I'll have to patch them when I've got the final paper format.

If you like to have all parts of Exodus 1 in one file, all the text marked up, then please take a look here:

I'm open to any suggestions for improvement.

Sincerely,
Maik Schmidt
